Halo 5's December Update Brings Forge Mode, New Maps, And More

A gift from the Cartographer.

You almost never see a game released without some kind of plan for further support and expansion, these days, and that’s certainly very true of Halo 5: Guardians. The first update to the game in November was relatively modest, adding a new game mode, armour and REQs in the month after the game’s release. Dubbed “Cartographer’s Gift”, the December update is much bigger.

For one thing, it signals the return of Forge mode, a staple since Halo 3 which lets you create your own custom maps and generally just mess around within the game, and promises that this will be bigger and better than ever. However, there’s also four new maps coming to the game, with Battle of Noctus for the Warzone game mode, Overgrowth for Arena, and two maps for Big Team Battle, Antifreeze and Burial Mounds. It’s rounded off with more than 30 additional REQs for armours, weapons, emblems and so on.

More free updates are planned every month until June 2016, but for now, check out the trailer for Cartographer’s Gift from last night’s The Game Awards:

Great stuff that they’re doing free updates. A rarity in this age of season passes.

Got this in the Friday sale and I’m enjoying the multiplayer way more than the Halo collection. Matchmaking actually works and the warzone matches have a good scale to them.
