[UPDATE] Rumour: Destiny 2 “Delayed”, Bungie To Sell Ammo Packs For Real Money

Two rumours about the future of Destiny are doing the round and the first comes from Kotaku who report that their source has said the sequel, which was allegedly meant to be released in September this year, has been delayed.

Kotaku source “people familiar with goings-on at the studio” but do point out that Bungie don’t have a roadmap for the game and are continually shifting content and deadlines. A year ago a financial call by Activision revealed the sequel was well in to production.

Meanwhile,VG247 have another source “familiar with the matter” who has stated that you will soon be able to use real world money to buy purple ammo for use in game. This would be bought by using the ‘silver’ currency which currently is only be used for cosmetic items, such as dance moves.

You can already buy purple ammo for 950 glimmer in game, and I don’t know about you but I have tonnes of the stuff  as I buy purple ammo when my glimmer gets maxxed out.

Bungie, as you might expect, have not commented on either rumour so far, and fifteen months after release Destiny is still selling well and is in the UK charts at No.22.

UPDATE: Activision have poured water on VG247’s gossip, “We’re not doing that,” a representative told GameInformer.

  1. Dunno about anyone else, but that latter rumour sounds like utter tosh to me – Personally, I do the same as TC & just buy about 4 or 5 whenever my glimmer is maxed out. This happens often.

I think each character of mine consistently has in the region of 60-70 packs.

Not sure who would buy this tbh. It’s not like it’s that scarce you need to use them often anyway. I usually end up trading them in for rep with factions (as well as motes & everything else I have far too much of these days).

    • You can use heavy ammo packs to increase faction ranks. Buying heavy ammo for either strange coins (Xur) or Ether seeds (Variks) then turning it into faction rep is one of the most efficient ways of ranking up since they nerfed faction rep post TTK.

So – heavy ammo for silver could be seen as PTW – depending on how it’s priced.

  2. Probably true. They denied the “pay to be level 25” only for it to be available shortly after.

It sounds like the Halo 5 req packs that you can earn easily but people still buy them.

  3. After what’s already come from this game, I would not be surprised.

It’s shameful as there’s so many passionate players that helped make it big. Rather than reward them, they’re being milked.

  4. When people joked about COD selling ammo packs, it was a bloody joke!

DESTINY! IT WAS A JOKE! NO!

    NO!

    BAD GAME! BAD GAME!

    NAUGHTY CORNER FOR YOU!

    BAD!

    VERY BAD!

    VERY VERY BAD!

    NO!

  5. Hah! Love that response.
