A month ago there were all sorts of rumours circulating that there would be no main Assassin’s Creed game this year, with Watch Dogs 2 filling it’s place, and the next in the series would be set in Egypt.
Ubisoft have confirmed one of these in a blog post.
This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise.
We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.
It is rather odd they won’t have a game in the year the franchise will have its highest profile due to the movie, and it does leave a big hole in their schedule so the Watch Dogs 2 rumour looks more likely as well.
Are you happy with the Assassin’s taking a year off? Let us know in the comments.

Good. Syndicate was fun but the series needs to take a break.

Yep, good stuff. The game has good scale anyway, but with an extra year I reckon they can go even further and create something with a bit more pazazz to it.

AC Egypt would be so incredibly sick! I’m not fussed about taking a year off. I’d more than likely buy an AC game this xmas, but happy to wait an extra year, especially if Watch Dogs 2 is coming.

I wouldn’t mind an Ezio Trilogy Remaster, but it’s good that they’re finally recognising they’ve milked it too much.

About time really. It should of happened a long time ago. It was around brotherhood time I think I got bored of it, Even though I carried on buying it. I know I’m strange.
JR.
Im a little bit disappointed by this news tbh. It just wont be Christmas wihout AC :'(
I thought most AC games were made over a couple of years anyway – with different teams working on different titles?
I cant see them changing the basic gameplay too much. It probably just means they can relax a little without the preassure of releasing a game this year. It can’t be fun having to work to such tight deadlines but I’m disappointed all the same.

Yes but now I think there is an extra team, but they’ve gone to the new development timeline now, rather than wait till the extra team has done their game.
Or something like that! Put it this way, this Egypt-set AC named/codenamed empire will have another whole year of development.
There will be bucket loads of other games anyway.

An main??
Good that they’re finally giving it a rest.

you are all being far too polite..you think it i will come straight out with it
THANK FUCK!

They need to refocus the story to have some progression in the plot rather than disjointed stories. After the first few it looked like you’d follow the Assassins collecting the artifacts, though this petered out.
PARKER94!
All been shit since AC:2 anyways.
Syndicates good but i still much prefer the proper old school assassin style the earlier games had.
