Paragon is Epic Games’ upcoming take on the MOBA genre – it’s really good, by the way – and in keeping with the genre and the market it cultivates, it’s angling for a free to play business model. However, in the run up to the game’s full release, they’re eager to get it into the hands of those interested in the game, to build up a community and some momentum for the game.
So they’re going into Early Access on both PC and PS4, starting on March 18th. To get in and play at that point, you’ll need to buy the Founder’s Pack, which will be available for $19.99 from March 14th. The preamble to this is that it will net you a bunch of skins, boosts and cosmetic items alongside being able to play the game during the Early Access Season, but you’ll have to be eager, as the game still features a number of features that are in development. Cards and deck building have yet to be polished, for example.
For those who have signed up for the game’s beta, you’ll be given the chance to join in and sample the game for free on designated Beta Weekends, which will be held through Early Access in the run up to Epic opening the game up for free some time this summer.
It all boils down to how much you want to play Paragon. If you’re extremely keen and can see yourself indulging in a few microtransactions, the Founder’s Pack gets you in on day one and you progress is persistent through to the final game. If you don’t want to pay a penny, you’ll be better off waiting for the Beta Weekends or the full game down the line.

Not a single person going squee that PS4 is getting Early Access then? You lot have been asking for it for ages!
The Lone Steven
I didn’t ask for this. I only wanted to use the power of the PS4 to find the hidden Dagger of beards and somehow end up destroying several lost cities with three goddamn bullets. Then go on an epic quest to save the day instead of some pointed ear kid and have my deeds get overlooked by a princess called Delda. Then go into space, fight big ships with a crew and end up having to select a colour to deterimine the future of the galaxy. AND THEN…
take over the world for the bonus XP. But no, apparently, these things have been done.
