What We Played #244: The Division, Rogue Trader & Hitman

As is our custom here at TheSixthAxis, on a Friday we get our nosy heads on and ask you what you’ve played. However, in an attempt to put you at ease we first tell you what we’ve played, so, you know, it’s not weird. Kind of like Alcoholics Anonymous, but for games, but without the free coffee or self-loathing. Probably.

Aran has been away, which is possibly why he was so keen to launch straight into What We Played before anyone else. Along with other members of the team he’s been playing The Division, and he’s made sure his character is smartly dressed for the occasion. He didn’t actually tell me that, but I saw a picture on Twitter, and as anyone knows on another day, and perhaps at a less salubrious website, that would be enough to form a whole article around. But we don’t have time for that.

He also entered the world of Rebel Galaxy and it sounds fantastic;

“Rebel Galaxy reminds me of Firefly quite a lot, especially due to the soundtrack which is quite country and western. I’m in the early stages yet with my first ship but already it is growing to be a favourite of mine. One particularly eventful moment was when I was under attack by pirates, my shields all failing and moments away from destruction. Suddenly I heard a voice say “Target destroyed”, as a pirate ship exploded. A passing military convoy had opened fire on the pirates, wiping them out in seconds. The military officer then noticed through scanning my ship that I had contraband on board, but a bribe was enough.

It wasn’t enough for the second military officer I ran into, who decided to blow me up instead”

Miguel popped in from the big ‘ol United States Of America to tell us that he’s been dabbling in Fire Emblem Birthright, the Bravely Second demo and the Uncharted 4 beta. Not all at the same time I think, or on the same platform – can you imagine Uncharted 4 on the 3DS? Anyway, I’m sure I can dream about Fire Emblem on the PS4 though right?

If weird games are your thing Kris has you covered, as he’s been playing Rusty Lake Hotel, which is an interesting sounding title, whilst also being a very poor name for a holiday destination. Along with that he’s also been playing Clash Royale, which he’s not sure why. I’m not sure why either, but the conversation could become too existential for a Friday afternoon if we think too closely about it.

Tef has decided to give The Division the slightly less cool-sounding moniker, The Divvy. This for one thing makes it sound more like an unwelcome classmate in the 90’s, rather than being an undercover sleeper cell of agents tasked with saving a city. He’s also been keeping busy with the next couple of episodes of the new Hitman, and a brief but successful foray into Battleborn, where once again he was surprised that he could actually play it well. We’ll have to teach him not to sell himself short. Which should be easy as he’s very tall.

As for me, I’ve been playing The Division as well, and enjoying wandering the snow-laden streets. Overall I’ve been very impressed with it, and the loot system drives you onward at every opportunity, all the while levelling up as you shoot bad guys in the head. Thanks to a train delay I also played six hours of Pokémon Omega Ruby and I’m loving my return to Hoenn thus far, with 34 Pokémon in tow. There’s something therapeutic about it, and I think I’ll be engrosssed for a good while yet.

So how about you? What have you been playing?

  1. Had a a virus for less than two weeks but better now and have been playing Uncharted 3 Remaster currently on Chapter 20 so will have the Platinum tomorrow evening. Been a while that xD
Then will start on Game of Thrones (Telltale Games)
Was so tempted to pick up Until Dawn for £22 at my local. But will wait until I am finished with Uncharted and Game of Thrones aswell as Borderlands The Pre-Sequel before starting on Until Dawn and hopefully DiRT next month ^^

  2. A little bit of The Last of Us, some Black Ops 3 zombies, and a load of The Division. I knew it was going to be awesome!

    • And some Uncharted 4 beta and Hitman beta. Liked both however there’s no chance of me buying Hitman when I know the entire game (on disc) is coming in January 2017 – so I’ll pick it up then, when there is usually a quiet release period following Christmas.

  3. Got The Division after finishing Life is Strange which was good but didn’t quite live up to the hype for me.

Ps Cex are doing the limited edition of the division for £45, a tenner less than Game.

  4. Held off buying The Division as don’t have PS Plus and no one could really answer how much this would effect my experience, if at all?

Instead I carried on with Tales from Borderlands and finished chapter 2. Picked up Borderlands Handome Collection for £10 today, so will get into that this weekend. Played Borderlands 2 on PS3, although only got about half way through, and never played the Pre-sequel, so seemed like a lot of game for a tenner!

    • Pretty sure you’ll need PS plus for whole thing. It’s an online only game mate.

      • That’s what I was worried about. I have Plants vs Zombies and it’s unplayable. But then couldn’t you play Destiny without PS Plus? Surely it should say ‘requires PS Plus subscription’ on the box? No one has been able to give me a 100% definite answer. The situation with games like this needs to be much clearer imo.

      • On XB1, Gold is required. Pound to a penny its exactly the same on PS4.

This suggests you can play some bits, but not others? It’s all too confusing. Sony are dicks for sticking multiplayer behind PS+ :-(

      • Thing is, you’ll encounter other players whether you like it or not. It’s impossible to avoid playing with others when you spawn into a hub in the SP element of the game. Plus you’ll want to at least do a bit of dark zone to get better gear and weapons.

    • You can definitely play without xbox gold as my sub ran out this morning. I can explore and do missions still, just can’t group up with others. The tougher parts would probably be a struggle by yourself though.

  5. Just Destiny this week. Oh, and Broforce. Surprisingly good game

  6. Never heard of Rebel Galaxy before, but after watching the trailer, I totally get the Firefly reference.

Picked up the Division on Steam last night and after some strange voodoo to make it work (dodgy Nvidia drivers) I had a pretty good time with it (it is sooo pretty!), so Ill in there mostly.. I might also play some more of the new Tomb Raider game, which is good, but hasn’t gripped me like the last one did for some reason. If there’s any weekend left, I may put some time into Dying Light. If I’m not scouring the Internet for episodes of Firefly..

  7. No Borderlands this week as Forrest was ill.
Lots of Diablo, trying out more new builds (currently a LoN Bomb Crusader which is quite fun) and helping out a mate who’s just recently got back into playing.
Quite a bit of Action Henk. I’ve got gold medals on all stages so far (and about 10 rainbow medals) but I’ve got to the Insane difficulty stages and they are seriously tricky … I’ve only managed to actually complete 1 of them so far.
Still plugging away at Rayman Legends daily/weekly challenges, not long to go now as I’m only about 140 points away from getting the last trophy.

  8. Well… normally i would look at my XMB to see what eclectic mix of games i had dipped into any week, but i had to rebuild the database this week so everything is out of kilter now.
Uhm.. I think this week has mainly been Book of Unwritten Tales 2, and a dip into Driveclub.

  9. Lots of Far Cry Primal which i picked up the Platinum for on Wednesday, some Destiny solo and with Forrest and Toutski some Four Kings Casino and PvZ:GW2,a little Action Henk and picked up and started The Division today.

  10. I put 2 platinums this week 1st was Game of Thrones (TellTale Games) which I enjoyed and I’m really looking forward to the new series (I’m British) and Lego Jurassic World. I’ve also been playing Action Henk which is great fun even though I find it hard. I’ve already given up on 1% trophy.
