What We Played #244: The Division, Rogue Trader & Hitman

As is our custom here at TheSixthAxis, on a Friday we get our nosy heads on and ask you what you’ve played. However, in an attempt to put you at ease we first tell you what we’ve played, so, you know, it’s not weird. Kind of like Alcoholics Anonymous, but for games, but without the free coffee or self-loathing. Probably.

Aran has been away, which is possibly why he was so keen to launch straight into What We Played before anyone else. Along with other members of the team he’s been playing The Division, and he’s made sure his character is smartly dressed for the occasion. He didn’t actually tell me that, but I saw a picture on Twitter, and as anyone knows on another day, and perhaps at a less salubrious website, that would be enough to form a whole article around. But we don’t have time for that.

He also entered the world of Rebel Galaxy and it sounds fantastic;

“Rebel Galaxy reminds me of Firefly quite a lot, especially due to the soundtrack which is quite country and western. I’m in the early stages yet with my first ship but already it is growing to be a favourite of mine. One particularly eventful moment was when I was under attack by pirates, my shields all failing and moments away from destruction. Suddenly I heard a voice say “Target destroyed”, as a pirate ship exploded. A passing military convoy had opened fire on the pirates, wiping them out in seconds. The military officer then noticed through scanning my ship that I had contraband on board, but a bribe was enough.

It wasn’t enough for the second military officer I ran into, who decided to blow me up instead”

Miguel popped in from the big ‘ol United States Of America to tell us that he’s been dabbling in Fire Emblem Birthright, the Bravely Second demo and the Uncharted 4 beta. Not all at the same time I think, or on the same platform – can you imagine Uncharted 4 on the 3DS? Anyway, I’m sure I can dream about Fire Emblem on the PS4 though right?

If weird games are your thing Kris has you covered, as he’s been playing Rusty Lake Hotel, which is an interesting sounding title, whilst also being a very poor name for a holiday destination. Along with that he’s also been playing Clash Royale, which he’s not sure why. I’m not sure why either, but the conversation could become too existential for a Friday afternoon if we think too closely about it.

Tef has decided to give The Division the slightly less cool-sounding moniker, The Divvy. This for one thing makes it sound more like an unwelcome classmate in the 90’s, rather than being an undercover sleeper cell of agents tasked with saving a city. He’s also been keeping busy with the next couple of episodes of the new Hitman, and a brief but successful foray into Battleborn, where once again he was surprised that he could actually play it well. We’ll have to teach him not to sell himself short. Which should be easy as he’s very tall.

As for me, I’ve been playing The Division as well, and enjoying wandering the snow-laden streets. Overall I’ve been very impressed with it, and the loot system drives you onward at every opportunity, all the while levelling up as you shoot bad guys in the head. Thanks to a train delay I also played six hours of Pokémon Omega Ruby and I’m loving my return to Hoenn thus far, with 34 Pokémon in tow. There’s something therapeutic about it, and I think I’ll be engrosssed for a good while yet.

So how about you? What have you been playing?

  1. I’ve not played too much this week, was too busy. What I did was playing a bit of Driveclub (liked the AMG races, had to unlock a car first to take part in a challenge by Blast71), and had a look at Infamous First Light, but I found that rather underwhelming after playing the full game. Apart from that I was thinking hard whether to get The Division, as almost everyone else seems to play that and I liked the Beta…
