When Sony announced the PlayStation VR’s launch plans the majority of pre-orders in various nations were rather simple. However in the US the PSVR was at first only available in a $499 bundle that included the PS4 Camera, two Move motion controllers, VR Worlds, and a VR demo disc alongside the headset. Of course some people weren’t happy with that option, whose pre-orders goes live March 22nd, due to already owning the other peripherals.
Sony has now confirmed that the core PSVR headset will be available for pre-order in the US on March 29th, with the update coming via the PS Blog.
Thanks to everyone for sharing their feedback on PlayStation VR pre-orders! It’s clear that there’s a lot of interest from many of you to secure the PlayStation VR core system, and I’m happy to share that we’ve decided to make it available for pre-order on Tuesday, March 29, at 7:00 a.m. PT at participating retailers.
So to wrap it all up, here are your pre-order options:
- PlayStation VR Launch Bundle ($499.99 MSRP) – pre-order on March 22 at 7:00 a.m. PT
- PlayStation VR core ($399.99 MSRP) – pre-order on March 29 at 7:00 a.m. PT
If you’re interested in owning PlayStation VR on day one, mark those calendars as we’re expecting these units to sell out quickly!
So if you are in the US and are looking to pre-order PSVR then I’d set those alarms early for the chance at not missing the first wave.

All that hot air and hyperbole for nothing!

I’m not sold on PSVR or the whole VR headset concept. Perhaps I need to have a go with it before being converted but at the moment nothing is making me believe that this is anything other than another fad like the recent “3D TV” failed fad (even doesn’t tout their 3D channel in their adverts).

I’m sold on the concept but it’s still a long way away from my expectations for VR based on my scifi readings – and in fairness might never get there.
A bit like early “red/cyan” 3D evolved into stereoscopic 3D, i think VR will be done completely differently in the future.
But as we’re stuck with the current technology – and as i’m not going to live forever,- the prospect of near-realising my scifi-seeded VR fantasies in the here and now is quite tempting.
