It was all meant to be a big surprise, but a lot of the details from yesterday’s Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV show leaked well ahead of time. But when it 3AM in the UK did roll around, Square Enix stuck to the script and announced that Final Fantasy XV is out on September 30th for PS4 and XBO.
To whet your appetite, there was news of a CGI film and an anime series which starts today, but Square have also released a new Platinum Demo for FFXV, which you can download right now from the PlayStation Store and from the Xbox Store. It gives a glimpse into Noctis’ childhood, with a small amount of story that will be unique to this demo.
And if that’s got you all hot under the collar for the game to come out, I’m sure Square would love for you to think about buying the game’s Collector’s Edition. It’s a limited run of 30,000 and features an art book, a big statue of Prince Noctis, soundtracks, in game content and more. It can only be bought directly from Square themselves.
Or if you don’t want to spend quite that much, there’s the Deluxe Edition, with a steelcase the Kingsglaive movie on disc, and the same bonus content as the CE. That’s a Game exclusive in the UK.

So tempted by the Ultimate version but £190….ouch. Oh well, will hide my credit card and try and be happy with the demo and the standard version…must not visit Square Store….ever…

I’m so confused. Is this going to be a good FF game, going back “to the roots”, or is it more of the bland FFXIII? =o

Ignoring things like the nauseating camera, awful audio effects and very clunky character movement which could be put down to it being pre-release code, I find myself very disappointed and once again it just doesn’t feel like a FF game.
I’ve just spent nearly an hour running around a very strange dreamscape with an inflatable mallet, collecting crystals like Sonic with rings, stepping on seemingly pointless pads to change the weather (or become a truck!?!) while getting gradually irate at the BigEaredFoxicorn (that’s what I named mine) every time it squeaked loudly and sent a text to my in-game phone. It’s all a bit abstract and surreal but even with seamless transition into battles, which do try to be fluid, there’s an awkwardness that already makes the game feel dated.
Mostly, it seems like the game doesn’t really know what it’s supposed to be and I think FF has lost its identity in the pursuit of modernisation.

Couldn’t wait to give this a go.
Turns out it’s proper rubbish.
What a huge [honking] disappointment.

I haven’t got around to playing the second demo yet. I’m just going to play to get the Apparent dlc. I enjoy the first demo that came with type 0 ramuh was epic.

My feelings were about the same. I found the input lag to be rather strange, and found it practically impossible to dodge attacks. I think the series peaked at FFX for me.

FFX was indeed the last good entry, even X-2 was very much a step in the wrong direction.
