As this is a weekend where I have precious few moments to myself – no watching the F1 or listening to the cricket for me – I’ll keep things brief at the top of the page and dive straight into the comments and achievements of the TSA community over the last week.
Rumours of an upgraded PlayStation 4 continued in the past week, but the comments suggest that not many are particularly enamoured with the idea.
Steelhead put it into a perspective that a lot of people out there will be able to relate to. “I don’t even have a PS4 yet due to other financial commitments/lack off free gaming time,” he said. “When I do eventually get one, it will be the cheapest one I can get.
“I don’t care about 4K in the slightest, and surely any gamer who does has a PC rig capable of it? Seems pointless to me and will likely fracture the player base to some degree.”
With 4K in their future, NotSmartEnough wrote, “I was expecting Sony to release a PS4 with a UHD Blu-ray drive, as they’ve always used consoles as Trojan horses for the next disk format. I was surprised to hear that they may be enhancing the gaming side, as this risks fragmenting the market. The power difference has to be big enough for people to want the new version, but not so big that it fractures the install base.”
However, there’s always people on the cusp of technology. JustTaylorNow said, “Got a 4K TV already and it’s brilliant for Netflix & BT Sports. It slightly improved my games visually, but I can imagine a 4K game would look impressive. I’m willing to shell out for the PS4K.”
Even with a lot of sources and evidence mounting, it always pays to be wary. Leeroye reminded us that “Last week we had rumours and pics of the new Nintendo controller everywhere, look how that turned out.”
There was a big fuss about a fictional lady’s bottom as well, as Blizzard responded to some feedback about a particular taunt pose from the upcoming Overwatch. A user said that they felt it was too overtly suggestive for a game that’s meant to be quite family friendly and Blizzard agreed, saying that they would replace Tracer’s “butt shot” pose.
Hazelam summed it up by saying, “I don’t think it was absolutely necessary to remove that pose, but it’s not something that bothers me either. But you listen to certain sections of the “gamer” community, you’d think they’d just had a book burning.”
Pdannysan was on the side of keeping the pose, saying, “I am totally against the removal of said pose. This is just another example of political correctness brainwashing. Honestly, the people who found that pose sexually stimulating have some problem with their brains – it is called get-a-life-ism.”
In the end, it’s Blizzard’s decision, and they had already planned to replace it to better fit their image of the character. This feedback spurred them on to do so, however, and as MrYd said, “Someone saw something in a game which is still in beta and calmly and politely gave them feedback on it. Blizzard agreed with that and weren’t that happy with it to start with.
“Changing it has absolutely no negative effect on anyone. Apart from the amount of idiotic complaining Blizzard are getting from the bottom half of the internet. Who are happily doing Blizzard’s work for them in promoting the game. Well done, even if that probably wasn’t the intention.”
It’s all much ado about nothing, if you ask me.
First things first, there are some hearty congratulations in order for Youles, you passed the 100 platinums mark this week with The Last of Us Remastered. In fact, finishing Minecraft: Story Mode has pushed him to 101 platinums, but there’s no such trohy for Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry, which he found to be a glitchy mess as he nabbed 100% of the trophies. And this from a man who plans on slowing down his trophy collecting!
Pixel_nme also finished Minecraft: Story Mode, while TSBonyman went for a more traditional point & click adventure, completing Book of Unwritten Tales 2 this past week.
R1MJAW’s still plugging away. He nabbed the platinum for Lego Marvel’s Avengers, got a few more rainbow trophies in Action Henk, and has managed to get a mix of gold and TrackMaster medals for the first 90 stages in TrackMania Turbo. The 37 TrackMaster medals are mightily impressive.
Kennykazey might have spent a lot of time with Pokkén Tournament, and thoroughly enjoyed it, but his main achievement this week was to finish off Persona 4 Golden.
The Lone Steven has delved back into the Mass Effect trilogy, completing the second game and making some decent headway into the third, while DividSmythe made good use of last weekend’s bank holiday to get the platinum for Canis Canem Edit on Monday, before dashing off to Spain for a bit of sunburn and relaxation!
Once again, there’s no trophy leaderboard updates this week, so we’ll finish things off today with the usual submission form for photos and accomplishments. See you in next week!
