The Elder Scrolls Online Dark Brotherhood Expansion Releases On May 31st

More details have come out about the Dark Brotherhood expansion for Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls Online, including the release date. It’s going to launch on May 31st for PC and Mac, and on June 14th for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It will set you back the usual 2,000 crowns, if buying it with the game’s premium currency, or is free as part of an active ESO Plus membership.

After diving into the story of the thieves guild last time out, Dark Brotherhood focuses on the guild of assassins and a return to the Gold Coast that was last seen in Oblivion. The new campaign has you joining the guild and trying to discover who is killing their best agents, but as you’re now an assassin, you’ll also be able to murder for profit and make use of new assassin skills, like not having to suffer the consequences of those murders.

If you’re incredibly eager to play, PC players can already get stuck in on the ESO public test server today.

  1. Again with the “buy your DLC with ingame currency” plan. 2000 crowns? Shame you can’t actually buy 2000 crowns. 3000, yes, but then you’d be paying £15 for £10 of DLC.

Just let us buy the stuff with real money.

    • So do you even play ESO or is this just you chiming in to give your unwanted opinion on the latest TSA article that’s been posted?

      • Yes, I do play it. It’s a lot better than some might claim, but the way they’ve handled buying the DLC is a bit dubious.

But you didn’t want my opinion, so why were you asking me questions??

    • I like the buy the DLC with ingame currency but yeah, the inability to buy it for the same price in real cash is kinda a big oversight.

  2. It was more of a rhetoric so I could point out how infuriating it is to see your name literally everywhere on this site.
You treat the site like a message board, you and a handfull of other members have just completely ruined Sixth Axis for a larger number of lurkers.
This used to be a good news website, buy the moderators and editors have let you lot get away with your inane off topic shit for so long that I’d rather read Kotaku.
If they’re the Daily Mail of games news, TSA is becoming the Mirror, because of you MrYd, and that Amphlette guy and a handfull of other over opinionated, gotta have their word everywhere, lets make an injoke and get off topic, mega posting pricks.

    • Firstly, really? You really felt the need to attack MrYD for having an opinion and replying to opinions of others? Really?

Secondly, this is TSA. It’s an OPINION oriented site and the community is known for all of it’s opinions. And claiming that him and (presumably, i’m one of the people that “Ruined” the site) others ruined the site is just no. Opinions are a strong point on this site. The staff welcome opinions. The comments are opinions and if lurkers don’t like opinions, they don’t have to read them.

  3. Yeah, you are one of those folk. And while yes this site was once respected as a decent reporting site, it’s now laughed at as a five day old repository of news we’ve already read elsewhere, peppered with your stupid ramblings and off topic ‘jokes’.

Seriously, your propmt reply just proves my point. This isn’t a community with opinions, it’s a site that provides links to actuall news, followed by the opinions of the same three or four people not even talking about the news reported, but something vaugely related.

Don’t mention the two new raids Yd, don’t mention how cool it’s going to be to actually use poison in eso now, even though its been in the game since launch. Just give a vauge unexplained opinion that the DLC model is a bit doubious then quickly jump back to whatever other article you were holding a seperate conversation with the same three people in.

    • So MrYD should be expected to know everything about ESO even if he only plays it sometimes?

And i disagree. TSA has always been an opinion oriented site. The community is it’s strongest point and the “Same 4-5 people” claim is not true. There are many people that post their opinions. And really? You’re attacking opinions? Really?

      • Yes, the community and the opinions of the community are what makes TSA much more interesting than other sites. I don’t always agree with the opinions of everyone, but that would be boring anyway. And I’m sure people don’t agree with me all the time.

But there’s many more than 4 or 5 people posting interesting comments and sometimes (ok, quite often) politely disagreeing with each other. With the odd bit of sarcasm, because that’s fun too. “mega posting pricks” doesn’t count as a polite disagreement, or even sarcasm. Thankfully, comments like that are extremely rare here.

So I’ll keep on posting opinions then. And sarcasm. And the odd bit of weird stuff that makes no sense, even to me.

    • What amuses me more is that if you think of it as a news site, why read the comments? And how do these comments ruin it? Leave them out if it’s only a news site for you. Don’t know about your screen set up but I have to scroll down to read the comments. I’m struggling to understand your reasoning with that one I’m afraid.

And although I realise your post is not only related to this post in particular I do want to point out something. I actually found MrYd’s comment helpful. I have ESO but have yet to play it. I loved (and I mean loved!) the dark brotherhood story line in Oblivion. Combine those last two statements and I was a definite to fork out the 2000 crowns (whatever that is) for this DLC. But his comment is fair, that is a bit mental that I can’t buy that and only that.

So cheers MrYD for the info, I for one appreciate it.

      • Yay! My work here is done and I can return to my home planet.

(That may or may not be true. I doubt you’d get rid of me that easily, really)

    • Accommodating any ‘dispossessed’ lurkers out there would be a tall order – the comment section can only ever represent the thoughts and opinions of those who take the opportunity to comment.
Good to see some discussion going on here.

  4. I’m not attacking opinions. Your first comment in this article had absoultely nothing to do with ESO, you jumped in to defend Yd, then retroactively posted an opinion, to defend Yd.
I’m attacking that, or more specifically you, Yd and Amphlette and a few others that post something in pretty much everything.
Yet the forums on this site have been dead for a week now.

I don’t expect him to know everything about it, but giving one small unelaborated comment on dlc is not an opinion, it’s a small comment, for the sake of posting on an article. Prolly a first post race with you.

    • Not a first post race at all. If I happen to read an article when I’ve got the time to post something, and I’ve got something to say, I’ll post it. I type fast, and things just flow from my brain into my fingers, without thinking much about if I should be typing it or not. What’s the worst that can happen? I say something on the internet that people can ignore if they want to?

I thought my comment about the DLC was very relevant though. If you wanted more details, just ask. It’s a very dodgy practice where they only let you buy the DLC with the in-game currency, and only let you buy that currency in certain amounts. And conveniently you can only buy more currency than you need for the DLC. Which has happened every time they’ve released DLC.

It’s effectively making you pay £15 for DLC that they claim costs less. It’s put me off buying any of the DLC for a game that is otherwise a lot of fun. Ok, there’s also the fact that I’m nowhere near doing everything else in the game first before I add more stuff to it.

      • Plus it took you almost 30 minutes to post “first”. You’re pretty shit at it if that’s your ploy.

      • Oh, I could do worse. I could go and find an article from last week with no comments and post there? Or go back even more? Sometime last July?

There’s no limit to how shit I can be!

      • You dare to oppose me, Mister YD?

Then we shall comment to the death at dawn!

      • To a degree I agree with you, however having bought all the DLC so far, and with the free sign up points, this one is free for me.
The point I’m making is what you just said was a relevant and interesting point. Your first comment wasn’t.
TSA has lazy writers these days and that leads to even lazyer comments.
I guess why bother posting a full opinion when the entire article gives a small announcement then a link to follow with the actuall information. I guess the actuall comments are with the actuall news.

      • There is so much you can write about a certain topic and some of the writers may not have time to do long articles about a single release date. Padding out stuff is often a bad way of reporting stuff and again, when did size matter?

Or would you have every writer stretch out a “X is out” piece of news into a big article? And the links are often to the publisher or developer’s site. Apart from copy and pasting the entire lot, it is rather pointless writing the same stuff and well, it’s quicker to put the link it. I would like to make a point that TSA writers are all volunteers and have their own lives. They put in a lot of effort and report news when they can. Just because they don’t pad it out doesn’t mean they are lazy. It just means the nature of that news just requires a short article.

    • I admit it, I spend all of my time refreshing TSA so i can post first and proclaim myself lord of the comments and force out all of the lurkers so that i can create a league of first posters. /Sarcasm

When has time of posting ever mattered?

And why shouldn’t I jump in to defend the site and being attacked? It’s my opinion and well, you haven’t been civil.

And since when did size matter? I mean, i must have missed that memo on the size of a comment in order to be an opinion.

      • You can offer all the opinion you need with just a single word sometimes. Or by doing something with an eyebrow.

Or you could spend 20 minutes expressing your opinion in great detail, possibly including diagrams, just to make it absolutely clear that while it’s just your opinion, and others are entitled to a differing opinion, they’re wrong for these 17 reasons.

I usually don’t know which of those 2 options I’ll go for until it’s happened.

      • Or a single letter just to wind up people? Mwahahahahahahaha!

  5. Bit of a shame that the Thieves Guild and DB weren’t part of the game from the start but considering the size and Zenimax being new to the whole MMORPG thing, tis understandable. I do hope it matches Skyrim’s DB in terms of quality but the premesis of this is kinda a bit generic. :-/ Hope it won’t be the case.

And whilst some may feel it should be a free release, i disagree. The MMO is just Buy to Play and the developers put in a lot of hard work for what is hopefully a 12+ expanison thus deserve to be rewarded.

And i do hope they have the tight leather outfits that show off assests. er…

for immersion purposes and not because Steven is a bit of a perv when it comes down to it.

  6. See? How hard was that? About 80% of that was an actuall well formed opinion untill you trailed off at the end. Coincidently also the longest I’ve ever seen you stay on topic.

    • This bit is a fair point. It often digresses very quickly and is usually into something only a few people will “get”. That might be best saved for elsewhere but I’m okay with it either way to a certain degree. Just more of an observation (on my part) where it doesn’t irk me as much.

However, seeing the same tired old TSA tropes being rolled out get a bit tiresome unless things are freshened up with some new, relate-able humour.
