Having appeared in financial reports earlier this year and received a teaser trailer just last month, there was always the sneaking suspicion that Titanfall 2 would be coming out this year. And now EA have confirmed in another financial call that the follow up to Respawn Entertainment’s jetpack fuelled shooter is coming out this winter, some time between October and December.
Of course, that puts a lot of pressure on the game to perform at the tills, as it comes into what will be a fairly crowded market of first and third person shooters launching around that time. In fact, there’s the potential conflict between Titanfall 2 and EA’s own Battlefield 1, which is out on October 21st.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson believes that the two games have a very different market, though. He said, “There is a very broad and diverse set of players who play games in that category who are looking to fulfil different gameplay motivations. Some people play very quick play, some people more strategic play, and some people want both in different context. The result of that is, we feel like we actually have a really strong position to deliver the broadest set of gameplay mechanics as it relates to first-person shooter genre across the two titles, and feel very confident that we are well-positioned to do very well in that category in the year.
“Certainly as you see, the reception around Battlefield 1 we feel very good about that. The energy around Titanfall 2 is also building very nicely, and we look forward to showing more of both of those titles at EA Play in June.”
Speaking of which, EA Play on June 12th is when we can expect to see the first public reveal of gameplay footage from both of these games. Titanfall 2 is set for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Silly, very silly. This will hurt Titanfall the most out of the three by far, it’s just not the household name the other two are. It looks like it could be the last of the three to release also, given the release date of the other two.

That is a good point with Battlefield 1 and T2. But against COD? Erm…..
EA, are you sure it’s not the mandatory throw games against COD approach? Because it sounds to me that it is that approach.
