  1. This is exciting. I’m curious to see if Neo will succeed or people who already have the PS4 will likely upgrade to Neo. Also the VR how big of an impact it’s going to do to bump the sales of the PS4 up ????

    • I don’t think the Neo will succeed for people who already have PS4’s. The “upgrade” isn’t really big enough to warrant it, unless Sony offer some sort of trade-up scheme.

      • Rumour has it that the day one release PS4’s are awful with the VR, to get best experience of the VR, an upgrade is due.

Some tech guy said it was so awful on day one ps4’s that Sony had to release new hardware

      • That rumour from some anonymous source says it “was going to be terrible” on the PS4. Firmware updates and the extra box that comes with PSVR might well have changed that.

And it’s a single unnamed source (or possibly “some bloke in a pub”) who seems to (a) disagree with everything else anyone has ever said, and (b) seems to want more powerful hardware as often as possible.

Or it could be someone at MS trying to spread rumours that PSVR is shit along with the idea of frequent hardware updates in the hope that someday they’ll get lucky and have something more powerful than Sony ;)

And really, if it turned out that 40 million PS4s aren’t powerful enough for PSVR, then the whole thing is going to be a huge failure right from the start.

  2. I do think the Neo needs to have some form of an upgrade scheme. This is the first of its kind and although they probably won’t, I would like some incentive to consider upgrading.
I just can’t justify paying over the top price for an upgrade in the same way I wait two generation of models before upgrading my phone.
Either way congrats as it sure is an impressive feat.

  3. All good but had to laugh at the ground breaking network services claim! When is the next maintenance downtime?!

    • In fairness they seem to have got past the yoghurt cup and string issues that they are well known for, and the networks seems pretty strong and stable for the most part (with its usual bad habits).

Ground break though, well, company rhetoric is always rather comical. The unparalleled line-up of games was rather humorous too.

      • Yeah it’s not as bad as it once was, that line made me laugh though.

  4. Well, been a good while since i posted on here :-)

Recently joined the PS4 ownership club, Until Dawn sold the system to me, audio glitch/bug issues aside, loved it.

Didn’t really rate Killzone, Infamous Second Son and First light were solid, but never reached levels of enjoyment Infamous II and Festival Of Blood on PS3 did for myself.

Soma i initally loved then ended up hating….

So, so far, it’s been a mixed period for myself as a newbie PS4 owner.

I’m not overly happy with concept of paying for PS+, as until Sony really start to invest in PSN’s infastructure, i just cannot see the sense in paying for the service.

I’ve no interest in PS4 VR as it stands, as nothing has leapt out at me and with such a massive userbase already, i never thought i’d see Sony jump in with upgraded hardware so soon, espically as pre-orders for the VR headset seemed to be going through the roof as it was.

So it seemed Sony responding to developer demmands more than customer demmands and IF the upgraded MS hardware turns out to be (slightly) more powerful than Neo, Sony will have lost the ‘Most Powerful’ console marketing angle.

    Interesting times ahead no doubt.

    • When you say customer, you mean you right cause clearly the 40 million are very happy. They are slowly releasing exclusives cause third parties are doing enough for them not to bother pump out exclusives.

As for paying for PS+, they have to make a profit to improve your security right, if it’s for free why should they bother make that effort. A lot of people (non ps owners) complain about PSN but since PSn came about, never had issues besides the back, downloads are based on your internet not PSN, so if they are slow that’s your network plan you have.

      • Not even remotely true for download speeds. Sony has been throttling connections for years and they’re clearly still doing it here. My connection is wired and (after testing it that exact same moment) hurtling along at a lovely speed. Sadly, PSN deemed it fit to throttle me so I had 1MB/sec instead of 8MB/sec. I don’t really mind but it’s a service I’m paying for and I don’t think I’m being unreasonable by wanting full speed.

      • They need to improve the WiFi chip, its garbage, I get 300kbs but with wired 30Mbps, even my ps3 has better WiFi.

  5. There’s a reason for this. It works.

Second XB1 power brick has failed today so now they’re telling me I have to send off my console which will cost £84 to replace out of warranty. I wanted to trade the damn thing in and now I might as well put it in the trash.

I know I’m just unlucky and there are plenty of XB1’s out there that work just fine, but I’m sooooo mad.

Never should have bought an XB1 – nothing but trouble. Damn you Tomb Raider!

  6. :-)

I should of pointed out regarding PSN being so slow etc, that as well as owning a PS3 at my old place, i had an Xbox 360, both sat within yards of each other, both using wifi and my ISP was originally Talk Talk, then BT, so that’s 2 service providers and 2 different hubs.

Since then? i still use my PS3, bought a PS4, landlord’s son uses the 360.

I’ve moved to location with fibre optic broadband, place has newer B.T hub (Hub 5 where i was using Home Hub 3) and PSN is as bad as ever, only to play online with PS4, i have to pay for PS+

@JR:Sorry to hear your troubles with your XB1, when my Phat PS3 died few years back, Sony wanted it and £133 for a refurb model to replace it as mine was out of warranty and if i wanted to keep the 500G HDD i’d fitted, i had to put the orig 40G HDD back in, so if anything, MS do sound cheaper than Sony when it comes to replacing hardware, but it’s still hellish painful.

  7. The tech guy claim comes from this months Edge, Apocalypse Neo:

“..If you want honesty, you need to talk to the tech guys.As one CTO puts it ‘PSVR was going to be terrible on a (launch) PS4.It was going to be truely awful.Something a bit more powerful starts to bring Vr into range. If you want to deal with the crazy requirements for performance in VR, you absolutely have to do this’….”
