PlanetSide 1 Will Be Shut Down On July 1st

Daybreak Games has announced that it will be closing down the PlanetSide 1 server on July 1st at 4PM PT. The MMOFPS launched in 2003 and has been active ever since in these 13 years following that date. PlanetSide had been running for free since 2014 but Daybreak has stated that due to financial and technical requirements it can no longer continue that support.

In a statement on the PlanetSide site there was a brief statement.

PlanetSide 1 has a very important history with Daybreak Games and a special place in the hearts of those who work on its successor. While we have run the game for free since 2014, due to evolving business needs and technical requirements it has become necessary to conclude this service.

Daybreak has asked the community to celebrate the game’s legacy and give it a good send off.

  1. Oh noes!

Wait, it’s actually reasonable this time around?

Not pointing any fingers or saying that some publishers tend to close down servers/games but they rhyme with DA.

It’ll be interesting to see how it’s legacy will continue and if they will allow people to take their characters to the sequel(if they haven’t done one.)

WOW is roughly the same age, if not a bit older. I wonder how the shut down of WOW will be recieved? I mean, Blizzard must be bored of working on one MMO for over a decadde by now.
