Sony: “Gaming Memories More Important Than We First Thought”

You would think after the countless years of people screaming “Give us Final Fantasy VII remastered” and “Crash Bandicoot! Where is he?!” that Sony might have twigged a little earlier that people really, really like certain older games.

“We did some early research for PlayStation 4 and we found that people’s gaming memories were way more important and resonant than we first thought,” said Andrew House. “We definitely saw that last year with the Final Fantasy VII Remaster reveal. That title has obviously been cited by a lot of people as the first game that made them cry. It was a sign of the increasing depth and maturity of the medium. I certainly felt it.”

House also revealed that one of his earliest jobs at Sony involved Crash Bandicoot as he worked with a comedian dressed up in a Crash suit. “We had to stand outside the Nintendo office, shouting at them. That was a seminal campaign! So yes, Crash has a place in my heart. I one hundred percent completed the first game. I can fully understand that identification.”

With Shenmue, Crash Bandicoot, and FFVII now all revived and coming to PlayStation 4, plus of course Shadow of the Beast, maybe it’s time to start shouting about other classic games that need to come back. In which case: COLONY WARS AND G POLICE IN VR PLEASE.

  1. TIME CRISIS! 2&3
Theres loads more but that’s one I’m surprised didn’t come on the ps2 classics list.

  2. Vagrant Story please….

  3. Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy was an excellent game for PS2

  4. Is this the case of a very vocal minority? Just curious as I couldn’t give a flying f**k about old franchises. They’re old for a reason. If they come back, they need to be re-imagined so it’s fresh…not just a makeover.

A recent example is God of War. Interested in the old franchise? Nope. Think it’s had its heyday? Yep. Re-imagined in the new trailer? Good god, yes! Done. :-)

    • You’re old for a reason!
      :)

    • +1

    • It’s not the oldness of them that appeals to me. It’s the chance to play games again that I used to love. I’ve really enjoyed playing the likes of Uncharted, Abe’s Odyssey, and Ratchet and Clank again, just because they’re fun games, not because they’re old now.

    • SOmeone’s being a grumpy old fart.

Stop it, will ya? I’ve taken over the position of resident grumpy git and don’t need someone else trying to be grumpy as well. I will slap you with a fish if you continue!

  5. Yes, Colony Wars & G-Police, please, Sony! I think Sony own the rights to many retro classics as old as Shadow of the Beast. Would be great to see some ports. Too much to hope for?

  6. i’d like to see Legend of Dragoon on the eu psn.

doesn’t need to be remastered, just release the ps1 original like they have in the us.

but too late now i suppose, sony didn’t want europe to have it when they were releasing ps1 games on the store, they sure as bloody hell aren’t going to release it now they aren’t any more.
