Remember Fruit Ninja? That game from a few years ago, which had humans and cats alike swiping madly at their phone and tablet screens? Well now it’s back, and it’s in VR.
Fruit Ninja VR is out now for HTC Vive, making use of its twin motion controllers to let you hold twin katanas to slice away at the virtual fruit that’s thrown up into the air in front of you. There’s three modes for you to play, with leaderboards and achievements to collect along the way.
- Classic Mode – Slice fruit and don’t hit bombs. Simple and sweet!
- Arcade Mode – Slice as many fruit as you can in 60 seconds. Rack up huge combos and use the special bananas to score big!
- Zen Mode – 60 seconds, all fruit, no bombs. A great way to relax or hone your ninja skills.
It’s only in Early Access for the time being, and with a 20% discount to start with, as the team at Halfbrick want to experiment and add more content over the next few months. The FAQ on the Steam page indicates that they hope to have a final release in October, with more achievements added, more locations, new weapons, and even PvP competitive multiplayer and Steam Workshop integration.
Though it’s currently only for HTC Vive, they also say that Oculus Rift support is in the works, though this presumably depends on when the Oculus Touch motion controllers are released for that system. At the same time, an October release sounds suspiciously like it might make its way to PlayStation VR as well, though Halfbrick have yet to mention Sony’s platfrom.
