[UPDATE] UK Charts 05/11/16 – Infinite Warfare Tops The Chart, But Sales Are Down On Last Year

It’s the most predictable number one of the year as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare slams a laser pistol in the face of the competition and claims first place. However, all is not rosy as week one sales are down 48.4% compared to last year’s game, Black Ops III. That said, the game still managed to secure the second biggest launch of the year with only FIFA 17 beating it in sales.

The only other big new entry is Football Manager 2017 which lands in sixth place. Last week’s top four all drop one place whilst an advertising campaign and price promotion has boosted the sales of Skylanders.

UPDATE #2: Activision have released a statement.

According to GfK, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is the No.1 shooter/action game Week One launch of 2016 in the UK. Our fans are loving the great campaign, deep multiplayer and ‘80s inspired zombies, not to mention the incredible bonus content of Modern Warfare Remastered.  We look forward to a great holiday season and beyond.

  1. Considering it’s three years since the original and nearly two since the PS4 versions were released it’s surprising to see GTA5 is still in the top ten.

    • And it’s never really in sale unlike most other games. Crazy to think of the income it generates – and the online too!

  2. Great, glad the sales are down – even with the CoD4 remaster! Sick of the futuristic crap.

Hopefully it might prompt a quicker standalone release of the remaster too!

  3. Not surprised by the IW sales. Not a lot of hype leading up to this one, digital gaming is becoming more and more popular (presumably those sales STILL don’t count?) and there is no last-gen version this year.

I still enjoy the COD series and pick up every game at launch but even I skipped IW and am waiting on the inevitable standalone COD4 Remaster next year.

  4. Not surprising that COD’s sales are down. They managed to split the userbase twice. Once with the Remastered MW being available to just special extra super duper echo delta leather bob orange tango real lalala edition and twice with the dumb MS store can’t play with other versions edition. Combined with them somehow making the future setting get recieved badly, tis no surprise. Titanfall, Dishonoured, Skyrim Remastered, Battlefield are more likely to be chosen then COD this year. Last year, it didn’t have much competition, i think. This year? It has plenty. Probably be on the top for a few weeks instead of months. Could be the point where Activision realises that having 3 developers more or less work on the same setting, same game every year is a bad idea. They have 3 development studios attached to it. If they were smart, that’s 3 different types of COD. E.g. WW2/traditional COD, MW type COD, experiment?/new things COD. Wouldn’t harm them and gives all 3 a chance to vary their stuff.

Or they can just continue throwing big amounts of cash at it, getting more and more celebs involved and steer it towards the fate of Guitar Hero.

Remember that franchise? It died. I think there was 3-4 titles launched in one year at some point.
