Whilst there are no firm, official figures, data tracker GfK has worked out that PlayStation VR about to sell more units than the combined forces of both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive here in the UK.
“Early UK sales of PlayStation VR indicate it is already approaching the combined installed base of HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Initial PlayStation VR game sales are also positive with eight or nine boxed releases featuring in the Official UK Top 40 games chart (week ending Saturday 15th October 2016),” said GfK director Paul Simpson.
“Our survey shows that initial reactions from owners of PlayStation VR are positive,” he adds. “Some told that the experience surpasses expectations, and for many it is a talking point with their friends. Others believe the VR gaming experience to be a solitary one, but have been pleasantly surprised by social elements of VR gaming.”
I watched the new Independance Day movie using the “Big screen” feature on PSVR last night. I shall be watching a lot more movies that way from now on, it’s rather good!

Please tell me the experience of watching the movie in VR was good because that was the worst movie I have seen this year. Actually, I’ve had a cineworld unlimited card for 2 years now, I go every week and I think that was the worst movie I’ve seen in those 2 years. Close contender is the Scorch Trials.
Back to the VR though and I am really hoping my extremely unsubtle hints are being picked up and I will be a happy boy on Christmas day.

Aww I kinda liked it. Its terrible, but I wasn;t expecting much other than big explosions and laser guns.

Yep terrible but fun and I can imagine it looked awesome on a huge virtual screen. Sony really need to boost availability here in the U.K. and keep those sales soaring. And hopefully these sales bode well for good support from Sony.

From what I’ve seen, PS VR tracking is super “jittery”, and that jitter applies both to PS Move controllers and the PS VR headset. I’m wondering if they ever find a way for the experience to be more solid?
Also, some of the games made by big studios are not actually games at all… The “Batman: Arkham VR”, what’s that about? It’s basically a slightly interactive movie…
I’m honestly sort of baffled by how well PS VR seems to be selling when you compare its performance to Vive and Oculus. I know it’s an unfair comparison because of the price, but PS VR being the gateway into VR experience is holding the future of VR implementations in its hands. Is it going to be something more serious? Is it going to be just a gimmick? Is it going to go away again?
Vive and Oculus were focused too much on putting walls around their software and they splintered the market too much already for it to survive if PS VR fails.

Vive is an open system and everything on there can be played on the Rift (Its one of the main reason I went with the Vive). Granted, Oculus have done exactly what you have said, but they did fund the development of the games on their headset, so some timed exclusivity, while annoying, is to be expected..
Secondly, although the performance of PSVR isnt as good as the Vive or Rift, it is surprising how close it does get. I tried my brother in laws PSVR and came away very impressed.

Indeed, 90℅ of the vive and FacebookVR, 25℅ of the cost. PlayStationVR has a guaranteed supply of games, the other two, who knows (especially of PSVR grows as fast as it is).
If I had bought the others, I would be looking at selling on, before prices go into free fall and games dry up…

VR is considered as a gimmick by many. At the very least, there’s plenty of people who simply aren’t interested. However, Sony has done a top job bringing out something relatively affordable and it’s acted as a gateway into VR. Thing is, if the momentum doesn’t keep up, the whole of VR will go down the plughole just like last time. :)

I’ve not had a single issue with tracking, not the headset or move controllers. Batman Arkham VR is awesome.

I’ve never had any problems with jitter when playing games. There was sometimes a jitter on loading screens (not very often), but since getting the Pro there’s none at all.

I sold mine a few weeks after launch. Once the wow factor wore off I realised there’s not going to be any decent AAA games for it.
I hope it’s a success though as VR is great and I’m so on board for future versions.
Tuffcub
That’s a shame. RIGS and Battlezone are pretty close to AAA games, and Resident Evil will be the full thing. You may have written it off a bit early.

I’m glad to see it doing well – the hardware might not be quite where i want it to be yet but success this gen means there will be a second, improved generation of hardware to follow.
