Battlezone Gets A Gloriously Retro Classic Mode Next Week

Take a virtual trip back to the arcades of the 1980s with Battlezone on PlayStation VR, as patch 1.03 releases on 20th December and brings with it a Classic Mode that strips the game all the way down to its glowing green wireframe. There’s even a classic control set up, if you want to really embrace the old school vibes.

It looks like it’ll be a great time to return to the game anyway, thanks to new maps, new missions and events being added to the main campaign. If you’re into this kind of thing, there’s also new cosmetic items coming to the PlayStation Store, so you can jazz up your Cobra.

The full patch notes are as follows:

Classic Mode now available
Field Manual now available
– Both Classic Mode and Field Manual available via Extras Menu

Updated campaign content
– New maps, missions and events
– Health crystals in single-player as additional means of restoring health
– Hints will display upon death
– HUD colour options added to Settings Menu

Bug fixes and optimizations
– Fixed a bug where hoppers sometimes got stuck in level geometry
– Reduced projectile-based lag when not hosting in online co-op
– Various performance optimizations

Added purchasable tank customization options
– New skins, bobbleheads and horns now available to purchase
