Battlezone in VR is great, and it was easily one of my favourite games from the PlayStation VR launch, but if you didn’t have a headset, you were out of luck. Well, not anymore, as Rebellion have announced Battlezone Gold Edition which drops the VR requirement with a free update on PS4 and PC, and brings the game to Xbox One on 1st May. Later this summer, the game will also be coming to Nintendo Switch.
This is essentially the same game shorn of its VR requirement. You play in first person across stylised futuristic battle arenas, making your way across a generated campaign map and playing in 1-4 player co-op. Gold Edition also bundles in previous additions to the game, which includes the different tank skins, bobbleheads, horns and the Classic Mode update that revives the more simplistic visuals of the 80s arcade original.
It will be priced at £29.99/€34.99/$34.99 when it releases on 1st May for PS4, Xbox One and PC, while TickTock Games are working to port the game over to Nintendo Switch, with a release planned for some time this summer.
