It’s winter update time for Civilization VI today, bringing with it the usual raft of balance changes, bug fixes and general improvements to one of our favourite strategy games of the year. However, today also sees the release of the first paid DLC for the game, with new scenarios and a new civilisation to play as.
The Vikings are featured in the Vikings, Traders, and Raiders! scenario, a 100 turn game where you play as Harald Hardrada of Norway, King Canute of the Danes, or Olof Skotkonung of Sweden and go raiding everyone in sight. A little cheekily, this is £4, the same price as the Polish DLC, which adds a scenario and Poland as a playable civ.
As a civilisation, Poland is represented by Jadwiga, their medieval queen. She can steal territory by building encampments or forts, quickly letting you spread your religious influence to nearby cities. That’s bound to start a few wars. The scenario has you play as a Polish lord trying to defend Poland, Vienna and Prague from attacking Ottomans, holding them off for 60 turns.

King Canute? Canute? First time I’ve seen Knut spelled that way. Guess it makes sense in terms of pronunciation, but man… English huh?
