Following on from giving Grand Theft Auto V away for free over the last week, Epic Games have opened the vault on another big freebie for PC gamers.
From today until 4PM BST on 28th May, you’ll be able to grab Civilization VI for free on the Epic Games Store.
Once the giveaway is live, you’ll be able to grab it from the following link:
Grabbing a free game from Epic Games Store is as simple as setting up a user account and then snagging the freebies when they’re available, though Epic have recently introduced a new policy that you must activate 2 Factor Authentication on your account in order to claim them.
Civilization VI was first released for PC back in 2016, garnering praise for the latest iteration of this classic 4X strategy series. Since then, the game has been ported to iPad, Nintendo Switch and most recently to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There have also been some major expansions along the way, with 2K announcing the New Frontier expansion pass that will add eight new civilisations to the game through 2020 and 2021.
In our original Civilization VI review, Dave wrote:
Civilization VI is my new favourite addiction that I honestly can’t really fault. Each of the gameplay changes provides a fresh challenge, but they were well worth undertaking once they clicked. It’s packed full of the stuff that made the previous games great, but also has a crisp style that makes things clear enough when the game gets extremely busy. As such, the vanilla version of Civilization VI is so good, expansions aren’t really necessary to improve upon it. Having said that, I’m excited for what’s next.
Epic Games are giving away big budget games like this through their Mega Sale, running until 11th June. The Mega Sale isn’t just cutting the price of a selection of titles available on the store, it’s also seeing Epic literally throw money at punters, offering a £10 coupon to use on any games worth £13.99 or more. Doing so will then gift you another £10 coupon, then another, and then another. It’s a frankly ridiculous promotion.
To get the coupon, either follow the below link, or grab one of the free games that Epic is offering, which will automatically apply the coupon to your account.

Bargain! Except their store is so crap it’s downloading at about 2MB/s. Slower than Sony’s allegedly terrible download speeds.

Free is, well, free ;)

True. It’s free, and you can’t really complain about that. Plus it’s Civilization, which is also a good thing. Although 6 seems to be not quite right in some ways. And I’m just assuming the narrator will suddenly die unexpectedly after a couple of dozen turns.
But you’d think they could afford enough bandwidth with all that Fortnite money. I guess they just assume everyone will claim the free games and never bother to download them? Which is quite possibly true to some extent. Who has actually downloaded all the free games they’ve claimed?
