Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood Expansion Detailed

Two years after Heavensward, the second major expansion to Final Fantasy XIV is coming out on 20th June this year, and Square Enix took the lid of a number of details for Stormblood recently.

There’s bound to be plenty of new content to explore, but two new raids will mark the pinnacle of the in-game content. The Bend of Time story arc will culminate in the Omega high-level raid, while Return to Ivalice is to be a new Alliance Raid, with FF XII writer Yasumi Matsuno penning the scenario and Keita Amemiya of Onimusha 2 and Shin Megami Tensei IV fame designing the monsters and boss fights.

You might like to take these on by adopting the new Red Mage job, a short ranged magic DPS role with a rapier and magicked crystal medium, perfect for diving in and out of melee combat and chaining attacks together. They also get really cool hats.

Exploring the wider world is to be boosted by the ability to swim and dive into water, letting you enter certain rivers, lakes and seas for the first time. You’ll be able to head to underwater areas that include new gathering locations and NPCs. Keeping well away from the water are the new Ananta beast tribe, who prefer the mountains new Ala Mhigo. Their persecution is at the heart of Stormblood’s main scenario.

The next we’ll hear about Stormblood will be at the FF XIV European Fan Festival in Frankfurst on 18-19th February.
