It was rumoured from recent preview builds on Windows 10, and something we highlighted last week, but Microsoft have now confirmed that a specific game mode is to be built into Windows as part of the upcoming Creators Update.
How it will work has yet to be made clear, but the good news is that it isn’t restricted to Universal Windows Platform games and apps from the Microsoft Store. Instead it will support both UWP and Win32 games, meaning it could improve performance whether you’re playing Battlefield 1 via Origin, Project Cars through Steam, or whatever.
Creators Update details revealed. And yes, Game Mode will include both Win32 and UWP games. https://t.co/4UclQ3JTcN

The Creators Update goes far beyond that, and is also coming to Xbox One. On console, they’re working to speed up an enhanced version of the Guide and improve common tasks. The Guide will get a new Achievement tracking overlay, Gamerscore leaderboard, a new Cortana design and controls for background music.
Both Windows and Xbox One will gain integrated support for Microsoft’s own Beam streaming service, as well as Clubs, Looking For Group and the upcoming Arena tournaments.

Really looking forward to beam plus the additions to the guide like game dvr and background music. Not sure how they can make the Xbox OS any faster and more accessible after this, better dvr and streaming functionality was really the only thing left on the list and they’ve done it now.
Hearing a lot of good things about beam too, apparently very very good, but needs some marketing apparently.
