Over the past few days you may have seen some news of Nintendo Switch consoles being out in the wild, with a few people claiming to have bought them from an unidentified retailers. Well it appears that wasn’t the case at all as, surprise surprise, the consoles had been stolen by an employee at a US based distributor, though which company that is has not been disclosed.
Nintendo sent IGN a statement regarding the matter.
Earlier this week, individuals claimed to prematurely purchase a small number of Nintendo Switch systems from an unspecified retailer. Nintendo has determined these units were stolen in an isolated incident by employees of a U.S. distributor, with one system being illegally resold. The individuals involved have been identified, terminated from their place of employment and are under investigation by local law enforcement authorities on criminal charges.
Nintendo Switch will launch worldwide on March 3, 2017, and we look forward to everyone being able to discover the wonders of the new system for themselves at that time.”
So if you see some Switch consoles appearing on the likes of eBay, Craigslist, Gumtree or any other seller sites before the March 3rd launch date then its very likely they were come by through illegal means. Don’t purchase them.

Seems a waste of a good job, hardly worth it for a few extra bucks.

I wouldn’t put it past Nintendo to make this up as a publicity stunt. So good, people steal them spin. They have history for this sorta stuff.
The reality of course, is the Nintendo consoles is doomed from the outset, and it’s likely to bankrupt Nintendo, just you watch.

They RRP for £289.99, stock is likely to be limited at launch, and some people are eager to their hands on them early via the black market. Those are the three reasons I’d think of for theft as opposed to a publicity stunt.

Is stock going to be that limited? Less than 2 weeks before it’s released, Amazon are claiming you can still get it on release day, Game are claiming “last stock remaining”, and plenty of other places seem to think they’ll have enough stock to handle pre-orders.
In some cases you’re more likely to be able to get one than you are a PS4Pro.

This is the most exciting piece of news I’ve read about the Switch. It would make a great advertising campaign… Masked thieves break into a high security complex, steal an unmarked box, trigger alarm, get chased by cops, make narrow escape, get home, remove mask, open box… Nintendo Switch.
…play all five games, trade-in on release day for full price.
