Can we just not have an Uncharted movie? That seems the best option after many years of re-writes and a rotating list of directors and possible stars. The latest, and quite frankly awful, news is that the screenwriter has penned a script that is full of swearing and adult action.
“When I wrote “Uncharted,” I didn’t spare the rod. I wrote it the way the video game is. They swear in the game, they’re kinda foul-mouthed and I kept all that stuff intact and I definitely didn’t write it as a “PG-13” movie, I wrote it the way that movie should be written,” said Joe Carnahan.
Does that sound like Uncharted to you? The one starring Nathan Drake, who’s catch phrase is the family friendly “Oh crap”, and not “Die motherf*cker”? And to think, previous scripts were written by Academy Award-winning writer Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), and Oscar nominee David O. Russell. Instead we get Joe, who will have Nathan Drake say the line “They’re gonna be looking at real booby traps, not rolling boulder bullsh*t.”
If you’re thinking that Naughty Dog might have something to say about this then…
No one at Naughty Dog has read the script. No idea what the movie is about let alone its tone. https://t.co/lc64Pevqyk

UPDATE:
A recent quote from the writer of the Uncharted film. We know nothing about the film. Wish he'd stop implying that he has our support. pic.twitter.com/He1AHK53TI

Who is this “Joe Carnahan” person anyway?
*rushes off to imdb to look him up*
Yep, it’s going to be terrible. He wrote and directed that A-Team film that nobody, anywhere, asked for. And he’s directing a remake of The Raid (very entertaining film I may or may not have once found on Netflix in the very, very specific category of “Indonesian Films Directed by a Welshman”)
So that makes it sound reassuringly like the complete disaster everyone will be expecting.

I think I’d rather it be a 12 or 15, the games aren’t excessively bloody or full of profanity, they’re more about lovable rogues who climb impossible towers and blow stuff up! They should just give up, the inevitable train wreck will only sully Uncharted’s good name.
Tuffcub
Uncharted isn’t gory, from what I remember there’s very little blood. There’s the odd swear but they aren’t “foul mouthed” by any stretch. Maybe Joe played Bulletstorm by mistake.

You’re probably right and if I’m honest I’d prefer to watch a Bulletstorm film. And if ND arent tweeting positively about they’re own IP then I don’t think many fans will show support.

Sully. Pun intended?

There used to be a distinction between regular action movies and videogame movie adaptations but these days they’re all pretty awful tbh. I can’t remember the last time I saw an action movie at the pictures that could be considered a classic in years to come.

The first John Wick.

Second one is even better
Starman
No involvement from the main developers doesn’t bode well. It sounds like the director knows nothing about the game. Why not just adapt the story from the first game? Uncharted could make a good tv series though.
The Lone Steven
Was that a dig at Indiana Jones? The inspiration(Probably) for Uncharted and something that many people compare the franchise to. If so, ,how mature. *slow claps* Do tell me more about the “real booby traps.” Besides, it’s not like Uncharted replaced the rolling boulders with something else. Not like they had a sequence in 3 that involved being chased by rushing water. Oh. wait.
Ah, the foul mouthed Nathan Drake. I do recall him going “Oh hellll no, you did not just become a ****** supernatural ****** ****! you son of a ******!” in the games. Sully was quite the foul mouthed person as well. Same with Chloe. Oh wait, that’s a lie.
If “Oh crap!” is deemed as being foul mouthed, then half of what’s on TV is that. In fact, i don’t think there has been a single use of the F word. Ass, son of a…, they are used but only when it suited the mood. E.g. UC3 uses it a few times.
The games are rated 15/Teen and i’m sure that it doesn’t really need to be R Rated.
*sigh* This will fecking suck. Naughty Dog are either too busy with TLOU2 and other products or it was a decision made by Sony and probably end up being something both companies will regret.
Worse, the game is giftwrapped for a film. It literally is already written! Just adopt the first game’s plot or explore what Drake got up to in between 1 and 2. You could have him meet Harry and Chloe. Or set it just after 3.
A swear filled action filled UC is something that most fans do not want. Now, if it was Bulletstorm, then heck, go over the top. In fact, I would dare him to outdo Bulletstorm at being Bulletstorm.
I hope Naughty Dog gets fed up of their most prized franchise being messed around with and intervene. This put them on the map after Crash Bandicoot! This revealed their strengths and turned them from the developers of Crash into one of the best studios that Sony has at their disposal.

Rated ‘R’ for ridiculous.
