The major Spring Update has been released for Battlefield 1 today, following server maintenance this morning, with DICE pushing to add a greater sense of community to the game via the new Platoons system, amidst the usual bevy of other tweaks and changes.
It feels a little odd that a clan-like set of features weren’t in Battlefield 1 to begin with, but the Platoons feature fixes that, letting you set up a group for up to 100 players – DICE advocate simply making duplicate Platoons if you need more – with several different ranks within that allowing for vary degrees of management within the Platoon.
You can join 10 Platoons but only represent one at a time. Helping you do that, if you team up with other members, your squad will adopt its name, and if your Platoon contributed the most to a particular flag capture, your emblem will be represented underneath on a separate little flag.

There’s plenty of other tweaks and changes as well. The Medic class can now “spot” a player that they’re running to revive, giving that player a heads up that a Medic is on the way and hopefully helping to reduce the number of times someone backs out. They’re also continuing to tweak grenades, which were recently made to automatically resupply on a timer instead of giving you a finite number per life. Those timers are being made longer, and blast radiuses have been reduced,
The maps from the recent They Shall Not Pass expansion pack are being rebalanced, in particular the infantry only Verdun Heights and Fort de Veux maps that make up the Devil’s Anvil Operation. It also turns out that there should be a timer on Frontlines mode, one of my biggest complaints of the mode, and that this is being fixed in this update.
For the rest of the patch notes, you can head to DICE’s Spring Update page here. As stated, the patch is out now across PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Any news on when there will be a BF patch for HDR on the PS4 Pro?

Nothing yet, but it’ll likely be a universal job to add HDR to the game, across PS4, Xbox One S and PC versions of the game.
