Despite a fair amount of potential, Space Hulk: Deathwing was a bit of a disappointment when it released at the end of 2016 for PC, but Streum On Studio have a chance to take a second bite of the apple. The console release has been pushed back until Q4 this year and rebranded as an ‘Enhanced Edition’, working to fix some of the problems and improve some of the weaknesses of the game’s original release. Certainly, they’re answering some of the complaints I made in our review.
Some of that starts today, with an update that adds a Special Missions game mode to the multiplayer, currently only for Chapter 1, but soon for all chapters in the game. At release, each mission had a prescribed and linear set of objectives, but Special Missions will randomise the objectives you’ll face and Genestealer hordes.
It’s the first of a series of free content updates to the PC version of the game that will come to make up the Enhanced Edition. Beyond Special Missions, we can also expect to see:
- Full multiplayer progression system with loot and class customization
- New multiplayer class
- New weapon and skills
- New enemies
