F1 2017 Announced With Return Of Classic Cars, Out On 25th August

They made a cameo appearance a few years back before disappearing as Codemasters struggled with the transition to the current generation of console, but now they’re back. Classic F1 cars are making a return in F1 2017, featuring the likes of the 1988 McLaren MP4/4 – this car is sadly a pre-order exclusive – 1992 Williams FW14B and 2002 Ferrari F2002.

The game is out for PS4, Xbox One and PC with a worldwide release on 25th August.

“After an extremely successful year with the highly acclaimed F1 2016, we are delighted to be announcing F1 2017 and re-introducing classic F1 cars back to the series” said Paul Jeal, Game Director at Codemasters. “Classics were incredibly well received when we included them in F1 2013, and in F1 2017 they are back and better than ever. With so many great cars to choose from, it was hard to decide on the final twelve, but we are delighted with our selection of some of the most successful and iconic fan favourites from the past 30 years.”

These things will have been planned and decided on quite some time ago, but it feels odd to throw them back into the mix when the current season is shaping up to be a fantastically tense tussle between Mercedes and Ferrari, thanks to sweeping changes to the car designs and aerodynamic rules designed to increase speeds.

  1. I’ll bite.

    • Me too. Skipped 2016 more because the actual real life season was so boring rather than anything to do with the game. Also one of the best cars of modern-ish F1 times as a pre-order bonus? I think i may have a bite at that as well.

  2. I’ve just started playing last year’s game after quite a while and having great fun so this announcement has come at the right time to get me to pre-order this right away.
Glad to see the classics back.
