Over the past few weeks a number of retailers have listed a stand alone release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, which to date has only been available as part of a special pack with Infinite Warfare. Gamefly were the first, dating the release for June 20th, then a couple of German retailers also listed the game with same date, and now Amazon Japan has the same information.

However, Amazon list the PS4 version for June 20th, the with Xbox One version following a month later which is entirely in line with PlayStation’s exclusivity deal with Activision, adding further credence to the listings.
Hardcore fans of the game have been a little miffed in recent months as Activision have added micro-transactions and loot boxes to the game.

Erm, that seems to convert to £54. That can’t be right, can it? Are games a lot more expensive in Japan? Is the listing a place holder? Is that how much Acti are going to try and rip people off for? Is it to do with the piss weak pound? Is it all of the above? Is it none of the above?

That’s a steep price. A fair price for a 10 year old remaster can’t be north of £30…surely!!

How much do Amazon Japan normally charge for games? Is that price normal for an imported North American copy?
The UK Amazon currently has the “legacy” edition of Infinite Warfare for £40, and the normal edition for £13. So that remaster is worth £27.
Prices on the PS store are £55 and £80, so near enough the same difference.
Which means if it does end up costing over £30, the internet will quite rightly laugh and take the piss out of them.

Plot twist: they charge more for the standalone version so people flock to the original one thinking they’re getting a better deal, thereby boosting the sales for Infinite Warfare
