Ubisoft Singapore Gets Its Pirate On And Announces Skull & Bones

Ubisoft Singapore have made a game about Pirates, together with a very snazzy looking trailer that has a female led pirate sink another ship, only to find an armada  bearing down on them. It’s quite the dramatic introduction, but Ubisoft went all in for this announcement.

Naval combat is taken to “the next level”. Takes place in a shared systemic world, where you can sail with other players or execute betrayals. There will be a 5v5 mode called The Loot Hunt, which was demonstrated via gameplay that not only sowed the ships firing and ploughing into each other, but also collecting loot.

Other details include a mini map that shows the tide direction, and I heard throughout that sea shanties make a return, which were always a pleasure to hear. Those who loved the ship bits of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will feel right at home with some of the mechanics in place. It even includes boarding, though that seems to be more of a short cut-scene than actual involved boarding. At the end of each match, Frigates come in to hunt players who have the most gold.

The main game won’t be out for a while, Fall of 2018 to be exact, but there is Beta access is available. Skull & Bones will launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

  1. Totally sold.

  2. This looks interesting. Sailing bits in AC were great.
