Although this morning’s Bethesda showcase may have been short, they certainly packed plenty in. The main event was the return of BJ Blazkowicz in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Set in 1961 and following on from the events of 2014’s Wolfenstein: The New Order, The New Colossus sees BJ return to a United States overrun by Nazis.
Much like the 2014 title, the games looks like it’ll have a strong narrative focus, with several intense cutscenes shown in the trailer. Key to that narrative is the fact the BJ now has kids on the way, twins in fact, and is intent on freeing America from Nazi control so his kids can grow up knowing freedom. To achieve this, he’s attempting to build a resistance and spark a second American Revolution.
The America we see in the trailer looks like a slightly disturbing blend of what the 60s really brought and what life under the Nazis would be like. The KKK openly walk the streets at one point in the trailer, while later we see BJ teaming up with one resistance fighter with a frankly amazing afro.
If that all sounds like your cup of tea, then you won’t have to wait long for the game to arrive. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus arrives on the 27th of October.

That’s one of the best trailers i’ve seen for ages.

Didn’t stay up (obviously!), so woke up this morning to all the news from Bethesda, and to be honest, Wolfenstein 2 is the only thing they showed that I’m interested in. Always been a big fan and the last two games on PS4 were lots of fun.

I agree. I was hoping Bethesda were going to have an ace up their sleeve, didn’t expect it to be Wolfenstein but it looks fantastic.

Absolutely fantastic stuff! Makes me want to fire up the first one again…
