God Of War Confirmed To Launch In Early 2018

A brand new trailer for God of War, which is confusingly not getting a subtitle to reflect its new focus on Norse mythology, confirms that the game will launch in early 2018 on PlayStation 4.

In the new trailer some things are all but confirmed including that the child, Atreus, is Kratos’ son and is cursed.  The relationship between Kratos and his son is tense, mainly due to Kratos seemingly hiding his past. Little touches such as Greek pottery blur the line between Greek and Norse mythology, as well as a female character warning Kratos that gods of this land don’t take kindly to strangers.

Kratos seems to be the main playable character for more than that sequence from last year, with the camera confirmed to be behind Kratos. While I’d still miss his trademark chained daggers, it seems that Kratos has been bestowed an axe by the World Serpent Jörmungandr, that acts as his primary weapon. Kid is also a companion similar to Ellie in The Last of Us, in that he can fend off enemies with his archery skills, but also hangs onto his dad’s back.

Despite still being a fair bit away, the game looks as good as anyone could hope for and is still as bloodthirsty as ever. Expect to hear more in the future, but mark Early 2018 in your calendars.

  1. Can’t wait for this.

  2. This. Looked. So. Good.

  3. Hated the old games but this looks more adventurous than hack and and slash so I could be interested. Hopefully the kid isn’t just an annoyance.

  4. Then Kratos kills his son, goes all Kratos and murders everyone.

I really hope that doesn’t happen though as that would be a massive letdown.

Still, if I am in a position to do so, i will pick this up. Or get a PS4 bundle depending on where i am at release as this has the potential to be the best GOW game.

  5. This looks like a very different GOW game, up-close and personal which is probably a more suitable angle when he has his kid in tow. Looking forward to it!

  6. March 2018.
