PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been a simply staggering success on PC. Despite being an Early Access release on Steam, it’s capture millions of players and quickly became one of the most watched games on Twitch. It’s likely to replicate that success when it hits Xbox One, as announced at E3.
However, where the original plan was for the game to stay in Early Access for a mere six months, which would have seen it  release in September, this has now been extended, so we won’t see a full release until Q4 2017. It’s not known how this will affect the Xbox One release.
Speaking in a post on Steam, Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene said, “As we continue to fix bugs, improve gameplay and add new content, it’s important to for us to deliver you a fully realized and polished Battle Royale experience as we look towards launch.
“Over the past few months I have done a lot of interviews, and in many of them, I said we hoped to be out of Early Access six months after we first launched. I’ve come to realize that restricting the window to a specific month could hinder us from delivering a fully featured game and/or lead to disappointment within the community if the launch deadline is not met.”
Of course, this is really just moving the goal posts a little. The game will surely continue to be developed and expanded upon after it’s given the 1.0 version number, and up until then, it will still receive regular updates on both a weekly and monthly basis.
At E3 last month, they revealed that new maps would be on the way, as well as an improve mantling and traversal system, replays, Â weather, and plenty more besides. Recently, players got excited because they saw a pedal bike in a screenshot.

I hope this chap doesn’t turn in to another Molyneux and go round promising stuff that never happens.

How? The game can stay in “early access” forever for what I care. It’s a moniker that doesn’t mean much a whole lot. The game is getting updated a lot, which is good. What I’m hoping for is that going multi-platform is not going to slow down their dev time or weigh them down with unnecessary bug-fixing for consoles. Because let’s face it – this is NOT a console game.

The game is great fun, especially with a squad of friends.
Could do with a few bug fixes though, the broken spectator mode, the fact that players are invincible while underwater, and grenade arcs bearing no relation to where you will actually throw them spring to mind.
I’ve died to my own grenades twice now because of the latter issue :-P
(tip: be very careful with your grenades while indoors)
