In a quite remarkable developer update, Jeff from the Overwatch Team has implored upon the players and community of the hugely popular shooter Overwatch to be better behaved and curb what Blizzard see as a rising tide of toxicity.
Citing the recent addition of a reporting feature in the console versions of Overwatch, Kaplan explains that the team having to find ways to target and combat bad behaviour in the game is diverting resources away from adding new content. Overwatch has been an example of a very well supported game with a number of free maps, modes and characters being added for free to all players.
The reporting feature will continue evolve over time – again, these are developers that could be making nice things – so that when you report someone you get better feedback and notification when disciplinary action has been taken.
Basically, play nice or Blizzard won’t be giving you as many nice new toys to play with. After all, you shouldn’t reward bad behaviour, should you? As I said, it’s a fascinating turn of events and one that I’m curious to see how it will actually turn out. Do you  think this is a good move by Blizzard to highlight what’s going on behind the scenes to players?
