Brits of a certain age – there’s a Knightmare game on the way!

This post will be of no interest to you if you are A) younger than about 45 and B) not British. Still here? Well get ready to relive your childhood as a game based on the classic children’s TV series Knightmare is in production!

Knightmare the Game is a point-and-click adventure offcially licensed from the creator of the TV series, Tim Child.  For those who never saw the show, here’s a short explanation:

“Knightmare aired in the UK on CITV from 1987 to 1994. Real children stepped into the fantasy world of Knightmare to take on a daring quest. Most did not survive. It was a different time…”

The TV show had one child wearing a helmet, so their vision was restricted, and they were guided around a castle (created using green screen) by a team of three other children who gave instructions on where to move or what to do.  They were guided by a dungeon master named Treguard and he is voiced by his original actor, the legendary Hugo Myatt. Other characters from the show will also return, voiced by the original actors.

A few things have had to change to modernise the game, for example players can carry more than three objects and won’t suddenly die if they forget to eat food.

The game will be quite short, a couple of hours, but it will be entirely free! Huzzah! And it has been made without using AI! Huzzah!

In fact the only downer is that this will be PC only, there’s no chance of it ever making it consoles as ” it’s a small, independent operation.”

The game will launch next year to tie in with the 40th anniversary of the show, and you can find more about the title and grab the download when it becomes available from knightmaregame.co.uk.
