Archetype Entertainment has released a whopping 40-minute gameplay video, showcasing a full mission from their upcoming sci-fi action RPG Exodus – the game due to release on 7th April 2027.

Now, obviously, this is a full mission from the game, and does have some story spoilers for the game, if you’re particularly sensitive about that. Then again, it’s also a playthrough of the mission that was presented and playable at Gamescom in August – and that’s exactly what I did – so clearly Archetype don’t consider this too revealing.

The mission to Khonsu sees Jun Aslan leading a team up to the orbital station that has been taken over by space-faring zealots. We get to see some of Jun’s nascent control of Celestial abilities and technology, the third person combat, and run into a bunch of the Awakened animals – Earth creatures that have been given full sentient intelligence and human communication skills. None of the octopus in this mission, but we do get to meet the awakened frogs known as the Kay, and there is a big battle with an awakened bear.

Exodus is a game that, with Mass Effect Universe cancelled, will be seen as a spiritual successor to that franchise. That’s true on multiple levels, with Archetype having been founded in 2019 by a bunch of ex-BioWare bigwigs, including James Ohlen (who since left the studio in 2025), Chad Robertson, and Drew Karpyshyn, who penned KOTOR and the first two Mass Effect games.

I already concluded my hands on preview by saying, “Exodus has the potential to be really special, picking up the mantle of Mass Effect within the sci-fi RPG genre. I want to see more about the story that it’s telling and how it morphs into a galactic romp, but I love the Awakened as a distinctive form of intelligent life, and the blend of abilities, combat and exploration. Exodus is absolutely one to look forward to when it launches in April 2027.”
