Fortnite’s 100-Player Battle Royale Mode Will Be Free For Everyone On 26th September

With PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds having taken the gaming world by storm, it’s no surprise to see other studios now wanting a piece of the action. At the head of the pack we have Epic Games and its co-op survival shooter, Fortnite. Only last week, the company announced that it will be adding it’s own Battle Royale mode to the game, set to launch on September 26th.

Now Epic has confirmed that this mode will completely free to play for anyone on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Talk about throwing down the gauntlet.

Although identical in terms of its base premise, there are some slight tweaks to Fornite Battle Royale. It’s definitely more approachable than PUBG, the speedy gunplay creating an even playing field between wandering players and pesky campers. Then, of course, there’s the crafting. It’s a much simpler system than it sounds, allowing players to mine resources and intuitively build defences on the fly. Having a destructible environment definitely give it some added oomph compared to the Battleground’s fairly sterile, often janky setup.

We’ll hopefully have some more early impressions of the mode up soon.
