Bungie Explain What Is Next For Destiny 2, How Banning PC Players Works, And Preview Update 1.06

Bungie have stated that they are working on a number of improvements for Destiny 2 and some of them are targetted at those who have finished most of what the game has to offer. They’re going to tweak how rewards are given out, find a new use for Legendary Shards as everyone have thousands of the blighters, and – hurrah – add penalties for quitting competitive games.

Game Director Chris Barrett took to the Destiny Blog to explain what is in the works.

  • New systems and rewards to give our most engaged players additional, optional pursuits.
  • Better incentives for players who complete challenging Prestige activities.
  • Better rewards and replay value for strikes, adventures, and Lost Sectors.
  • Private matches for the competitive community (we are targeting early 2018).
  • Crucible tuning like adjusted Supremacy scoring and better spawning rules.
  • Better incentives for completing Crucible matches (and penalties for quitting competitive games).
  • Continued improvements to Iron Banner and Faction Rallies, including uniqueness of rewards.
  • Changes to make the mod economy more interesting and impactful.
  • Ongoing improvements to Exotics, including adjustments to reduce instances of duplication.
  • New ways to spend surplus currency and materials (looking at you Legendary Shards).
  • An emote interface that allows players to equip Salty, Spicy Ramen, Six Shooter, and Flip Out all at the same time.

Those changes may be months away but in the near future, next week to be precise, update 1.06 will go live with the following tweaks.

General
  • Fixed an issue with collision detection on the Bureaucratic Walk emote
  • Fixed an issue causing players to encounter empty public spaces too often in free roam
Crucible
  • Updated Mercy Rule settings to allow Mercy to activate slightly later in the match, allowing a wider range of scores to trigger it.
Clash
  • Reduced score limit to 50 (was 75)
Control
  • Reduced score limit to 90 (was 100)
  • Reduced influence that enemy-controlled zones exert over the spawning system
Survival
  • Reduced round time limit to 2 minutes (down from 3)
  • Reduced life count to 6 (down from 8)
Supremacy
  • Increased score-to-win to 70 (up from 50)
  • We now grant one point for defeating an enemy Guardian
  • Adjusted the influence that enemy crests have on the spawning system

In the final bit of Destiny 2 news (I promise we’re not turning in to VG247) Bungie have released a short statement regarding the banning of PC players.

  • Destiny 2 cannot automatically ban you, only Bungie can ban a player after a manual investigation
  • Yesterday, we banned approximately 400 players on PC
  • Bans were applied to players who were using tools that pose a threat to the shared ecosystem of the game
  • We did not (and will not) issue any bans for the use of overlays or performance tools, including Discord, Xsplit, OBS, RTSS, etc.
  • Information on using third-party applications can be found here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/46101
  • We are overturning 4 of the bans that were issued during the PC Beta

“We are committed to providing an experience that is fun and fair for the millions of players who have joined us in this community,” say the Destiny Dev Team, and you can’t really argue with that.

  1. Changes coming next week are more than welcome, but not enough to get me engaged again on a large scale. It will make the pvp I play a little better though.
The changes announced to the game can’t come soon enough.

  2. These statements and this patch are at least a month too late

Bring back exotic shards! Just kidding. Please don’t bring those back.

It’d be nice if you’d add some recovery, any recovery, just 1 point out recovery, to my recovery boots though.

Hell, at this point, I’ll take anything. Praise be to Crota!
