Ubisoft Delay Far Cry 5 And The Crew 2

A mystery game is also delayed

Ubisoft have announced they are “investing more time in the development of three upcoming games”. Far Cry 5 will be delayed by a month and will land on March 27th 2018, while The Crew 2 will come out in the first half of Fiscal 2018-19 rather than on March 16th. Fiscal year 2018 started on October 1st 2017 which means the game may be delayed until late May 2018.

The third games is “one of the three unannounced franchise games initially planned for release in Fiscal 2018-19 now will be released in Fiscal 2019-20”, so whatever that game is it’s slipped an entire year. We’ve just had an Assassin’s Creed so it’s not that, so maybe Watch Dogs 3, or The Division 2.

Christine Burgess-Quémard, Ubisoft’s Worldwide Studios Executive Director, said, “This decision is in line with our strategic vision of developing even more engaging and higher quality experiences for gamers. Taking more time with Assassin’s Creed Origins enabled our talented development team to fully express their creative vision. As expected, this had a very positive impact on the game’s quality and largely participated to its commercial success. Taking a similar approach, we have decided to invest additional development time in three upcoming games.”

A possible reaction to the EA / Lootboxes fandango that’s going on at the moment? Maybe FC5 / TC2 were pushing a similar micro-transaction model and they’re looking to recast the in-game economies (unlikely) or wait for the storm to blow over (much more likely)?

Might be more of a reaction to how AC: Origins has gone. Hopefully Ubisoft will learn to pace themselves more evenly.

I used to get a bit pee’ed off with game delays but now I don’t mind. I would rather wait and get a game that is properly finished and tested.
