Capcom have sent over a press release which seems to suggest that no one knew there was going to be a Monster Hunter film. We did, the producer of Monster Hunter Stories Ryozo Tsujimoto announced it three years ago and the Tokyo Game Show, and a couple of months ago and Constantin Film’s Martin Moszkowicz was at Cannes this year and said the movie was to start shooting this autumn.
“Capcom today announced that their mega-hit video game series, Monster Hunter, is being adapted for the big screen by Constantin Film with Paul W.S. Anderson directing,” reads a press release. Tell us something we didn’t know Capcom!
Tentatively dubbed, MONSTER HUNTER, the film tells the story of two heroes who come from different worlds to defeat a shared danger, the powerful, deadly and magnificent monsters that inhabit the land. Along the way viewers will make new discoveries and encounter familiar faces and beloved characters from the games like the Admiral.
Well that’s a bit better, a little bit of plot and it seems some characters from the games will be represented. However, Paul W.S. Anderson is directing and writing, the chap behind the Resident Evil movies and that could set alarm bells ringing for some people. The Resi movies don’t have much in common with the game, so how much of Monster Hunter ends up on the big screen might be an issue.
