[Updated] Blizzard Clarify Diablo Reign of Terror & Cross Platform Play For Diablo III Statement

Update: A Blizzard spokesperson reached out to us to update their statement on cross platform play and clarify what’s going on with their BlizzCon merchandise.

While cross-network play is clearly something they would like to happen, at this point they refute that it’s in the works:

While we love the idea of bringing our players together across platforms, we do not have any plans to implement cross-platform gameplay for Diablo at this time.

Meanwhile, rumours surrounding a new Diablo game or announcement are high, but Blizzard are adamant that the ‘Reign of Terror’ branding on merchandise is not referring to any announcements from the show

Those are just names and copy used for some of the new products available at BlizzCon this year, and not direct references to content at the show.

Such direct statements within gaming spheres are certainly unusual when dealing with leaks, anonymous sources and rumour. So, I mean, Diablo fans can still keep their fingers crossed, but maybe try not to get your hopes too high for this year’s BlizzCon, OK?

Blizzard’s own merchandising website appears to have leaked a new installement in the Diablo franchise. In the section for BlizzCon 2018, which will be taking place next month, there is a poster and two t-shirts for Diablo Reign of Terror.

This could be a new game, or perhaps a new expansion for Diablo III. There’s also a possibility that’s it the name of the Netflix series that was recently announced, but that’s less exciting isn’t it?

In other Diablo news, Business Insider have been told “It’s a question of when, not if,” cross platform play will be patched in to Diablo III, allowing Xbox, Switch, and PlayStation players to venture in to dungeons together. Blizzard are said to be “actively working with partners at Sony and Microsoft to enable cross-console play with Diablo III on Switch.”
