Creating has been at the heart of MediaMolecule’s games ever since the first LittleBigPlanet, and with that series celebrating its 10th anniversary, the team at Mm hosted a stream showing off the capabilities of their upcoming Dreams, by remaking a level from LBP in Dreams.
#LittleBigPlanet turned 10, so we paid homage to it in #DreamsPS4! ?

It’s oddly impressive, showing just how flexible the Dreams engine will be, and yet it’s completely logical in a way. Of course Dreams would be able to play host to LBP when they hold so much in common on a philosophical level, and presumably in a technical fashion in how players can programme the camera, the game elements and create levels.

Can somebody explain Dreams to me please? I’ve tried, but I just don’t get it!

Essentially it’s a very powerful game development tool. While engines like unity and unreal will ultimately still give you more freedom, dreams makes it much more accessible by using visual programming. On top of this and unlike other engines, you can create all of your assets within dreams using near professional level tools (modelling, animation, sound effects, music, etc).
It will ship with a campaign story lasting a few hours and spanning multiple genres, but the focus is on creation and playing community creations.

For all intents and purposes, it’s LBP in 3D. With the exception that instead of controlling a set avatar like Sackboy, you control a floating cursor called the imp which possesses the different characters you play as in the levels.

Aw man that takes me back to when the PS3 was barely a twinkle in Sony’s eye and Mm were showing off the trailer for LBP – i’d never seen anything like it, levels that looked like they were assembled in your back garden with cut-out sheets of cardboard and felt and these delightfully real looking woollen puppets jumping and pulling each other about the level. Can’t wait to see what the community makes of Dreams!

LBP looked so beautiful back then! What a game. And this trailer is brilliant, the ending certainly screams Media Molecule

I do like LBP and watching that video wants me to go buy again.
According to Google.
Dreamsâ„¢ is a space where you go to play and experience the dreams of Media Molecule and our community. It’s also a space in which to create your own dreams, whether they’re games, art, films, music or anything in-between and beyond
If it’s anything like my dreams then it’ll be just an empty space with nothing to do and with the occasional appearance of pennywise the clown.
