The exceedingly popular side-game from The Witcher 3, Gwent was spun out into a standalone release last year, coming to PC and consoles. Now CD Projekt Red have set their sights on a wider audience, announcing that it will be heading to smartphones later this year. Well, iOS this year and Android at some other point.
Game Director Jason Slama said, “We’ve been preparing long and hard to adapt GWENT to smartphone. Beautiful visuals aside, we’ve tailored much of our technology, including GOG Galaxy which powers GWENT’s multiplayer, to support mobile devices. I think our vision for bringing GWENT to smartphones combines the best we have to offer both in terms of graphics and gameplay. I can’t wait to share more details on the subject with you later this year.”
The announcement comes ahead of the launch of the first expansion for Gwent, Crimson Curse, which is out tomorrow for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. It introduces over 100 new cards with new abilities and mechanics. Check out the trailer here:

Gwent is F2P, but the economy is widely regarded as exceedingly generous. Its easy to pick up a new booster pack every day with just an hour of play, and there are lots of ways to earn resources without paying a penny.
