Persona 5 The Royal release date revealed, coming to Japan in October and next year for the rest of us

Phantom thieves rejoice. You’ll be able to return to the world of Persona 5 with a suite of new features and characters thanks to the newly revealed updated release, Persona 5 The Royal.

Announced today at the Persona Super Live P-Sound Street 2019: Welcome to No. Q Theater (say that five times fast) concert in Japan, Persona 5 The Royal is a new version of the massive JRPG that shook the world back in 2017. It is slated to release on October 31 in Japan while international audiences will be seeing it drop sometime in 2020. The Japanese website for the game only shows a PS4 logo, so no word on any other consoles for the game just yet, even if a version of the games has been heavily rumoured for Nintendo Switch. Keep your fingers cross on that one.

There are a lot of new sights in the trailer, but one of the biggest is probably the brand new party member who will be joining the phantom thieves on their adventures. In initial teasers she seemed like she might be a potential alternate female protagonist for the game, but this new trailer makes it clear that she’s an additional supporting character who will be going through her own trials and tribulations during the game.

Other new things shown off include a brand new, bustling shopping district to walk around in. The phantom thieves crew is also seen partaking in a variety of group activities, like darts and pool. We get hints of some of the sights and sounds of potential new dungeons, as well as some new attack animations for the characters on your team.
