Ubisoft’s Skull & Bones has been delayed again

For a game that looked an awful lot like a rehash of the good bits from Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Skull & Bones is taking a very long time to arrive in stores and has been delayed yet again. The title is now due in Ubisoft’s next fiscal year which runs from April 2020, so it could even end up being released in early 2012.

“We’re going to batten down the hatches and push back on the game’s arrival—this is a challenging news for us all, but it’s what’s needed to make Skull & Bones as awesome as it can be! Our focus remains on quality first and we’re grateful for your undying support,” tweeted the official account, along with this video

The game was revealed at E3 2017 and was described as “Naval combat is taken to the next level”. It takes place in a shared systemic world, where you can sail with other players or execute betrayals. There will be a 5v5 mode called The Loot Hunt, and you can disguise your ship to evade detection. Each ship as a special abilities such as siege mode which has no limits on cannon fire when the vessel is anchored. If you’re facing a powerful foe you can invite other players in to the battle to even the odds.

Earlier this year Ubisoft teamed up with Atlas Entertainment to announce a show based on the game, and given the rather long delay to the title the TV show may be out before the game. The television adaption will be “female lead” and is set around in the Indian Ocean and the end of golden age of piracy in the 1700s.

Skull & Bones was set to launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC but given the rather long delay and that we also expect new consoles in 2020, you might find it being a launch title for PlayStation 5.
