A mooted collaboration between FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin has leaked ahead of its planned E3 reveal. Elden Ring will be set in a new fantasy world created together by Hidetaka Miyazaki and the Game of Thrones author.
Being published by Bandai Namco, the game will be a fantasy action-RPG adventure, as leaked from a publicly accessible URL on Bandai Namco’s servers. This same leak also inadvertently revealed two more Bandai Namco projects: Tales of Arise and a remaster of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch bringing the game to PS4, PC and Switch.
Tales of Arise promised a new adventure in the Tales series, this time powered by Unreal Engine 4 and with a new Dynamic Action RPG battle system. Meanwhile, the first Ni no Kuni is being remastered for PS4 and PC, featuring improved graphics and performance on these systems. Separately, and not being called a remaster, the game is also being brought to Nintendo Switch, implying that it will be closer to the PS3 version of the game. Both are listed for release in ‘Fall 2019’.
Little else can be gleaned from the Elden Ring leak, outside of some teasing key art:
FromSoftware are, of course, best known for their Souls series of games, with the Dark Souls trilogy published by Bandai Namco, but they’ve not been afraid to work with other companies over the past decade as well. Bloodborne was a tangent of their Soulslike subgenre of action RPG published by Sony, and this year saw the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, set in Sengoku period of Japanese history and published by Activision.
I mention these games because Sekiro was revealed at E3 2018 during Microsoft’s press conference. Could we see this latest project receiving a similar announcement? It’s quite likely given that Sony aren’t in attendance this year.
Either way, I’m sure that FromSoftware and Game of Thrones fans alike will be eager to see what this collaboration brings.
