Gears 5 is finally set to release later this year on the 10th September. Opening with a cool spot of animation of protagonist Kait Diaz soundtracked by Billie Eilish, and touting the subtitle “Bound By Blood”, it looks as though there’s going to be some continuing problems for the extended Fenix family.
Gears 5 will feature a new mode, Escape, which, according to the Coalition “is everything you love about Gears, turned up to 11”. It looks as though it’s going to be a survival mode where you have to keep moving while hordes of enemies come for you, and it’s for up to three players. They even said you’d be able to play it in couch co-op, which will be a pleasant surprise!
A series of online tests will take place between now and launch. A versus multiplayer tech test will kick off on 17th July, and fans of Horde mode will get to test that out on 19th August, right in time for Gamescom.
If you grab the Ultimate Edition of the game or have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you’ll be able to play the game four days before the official 10th September street date on 6th September.
As a special treat there’s also going to be a tie-in with the upcoming Terminator Dark Fate movie, with pre-orders bringing terminator skins for multiplayer. Luckily for those heading to the game via Game Pass you’ll get the skins too as long as you play within the first six days.
