We already know that Microsoft’s Project Scarlett will be backwards compatible with Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One software to allow for a smooth transition to the next generation. That’s not all that will be compatible though as Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox One hardware accessories will work with the Project Scarlett too so those controllers you have now should work meaning local multiplayer can be done straightaway too without having to splash out extra.
Eurogamer received the following statement from Microsoft:
“During the Xbox E3 Briefing, we announced that thousands of games across four console generations will look and play best on Project Scarlett. We also continue our commitment to compatibility by ensuring your Xbox One gaming accessories and Xbox career will also move forward with you. We have nothing further to share at this time.”
There you go then. It seems Microsoft is looking to start the next generation on a positive note as possible, unlike what happened with the Xbox One.

Hahaha! Only if you have the mystical Kinect USB convertor.

Similar but opposite of what Sony did with the ds4 when they made it compatible to the ps3.
