Ubisoft streamed more of Watch Dogs Legion today and YouTube channel Ubicentral captured the whole lot for those who might have missed it. Unfortunately as this is a capture of a stream the quality is not the best, but if you want to see more of the game it is well worth a watch.
We get to see a lot more of London and also how see exactly how you can recruit any NPC in the game to be part of DeadSec. The video shows the character infiltrating New Scotland Yard then moves on to Camden before ending with a huge gun battle in Trafalgar Square. We also get to see the map which includes eight unique boroughs but annoyingly cuts off just before it gets to my office, that has made me very upset as I was looking forward to sneaking in and sitting at my actual desk.
The game is set in a post Brexit London, the government has gone and bunch of nasty types are now in charge, patrolling the sky with drones and using as violence wherever possible.
“In our near future, London is facing her downfall,” explains lead designer Clint Hocking . “It’s a time of massive social crisis. The accelerating rise of automation and AI are leaving millions of people unemployed. It’s not just blue-collar workers losing their jobs to robots and factories. AI in our world is now better than any human at filing a tax return, writing a legal brief, or diagnosing an illness.”
“The white collar is being wiped out as well, and the economy is being devastated. Millions are unemployed, the economy is collapsing, the government is losing power. Cryptocurrencies have overtaken the pound. Organised crime is taking over the city. People are being taken from their homes, pressed into deportation centres, people who speak up sometimes get investigated, maybe disappeared.”
Despite everything having gone to the dogs, and this being Watch Dogs, there are no actual dogs in the game. This is because dogs need owners and things would get complicated if you decided to kill someone with a pooch.
“Does someone adopt the dog? Does the dog become a stray? Does it disappear out of the world? That doesn’t seem fair,” said Clint. “Do we need to up-res the dog and make the dog a part of the simulation? We already bit off a lot, and we were like ‘I don’t know how we do that. I don’t know how we deal with this problem.’ And so yeah—no dogs.”
Watch Dogs Legion will be coming out for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia on 6th March 2020.
