Apex Legends Season 2 weapon changes revealed – is the Mozambique good now?

Season 2 of Apex Legends set to drop on 2nd July, Respawn Entertainment are bringing some subtle but impactful sounding changes to the weapons in the game. Of course, the headline acts of the season will be new character Wattson and the L-Star’s appearance from Titanfall 2, which were revealed at E3, as well as some looming changes to the map, but it seems like there’s much more here, including ways that pistols such as the Mozambique can become viable in the late game/at all.

But first, the L-Star. This will only appear as a pick up from airdrops, and like the Mastiff and Kraber, it will have a limited ammo supply that can’t be refilled. It fires large and slow, but high-damage plasma which will take a bit of getting used to. You’ll need to lead the target, but won’t necessarily have to be too accurate to land hits. You will, however, have to beware of it overheating.

Respawn are also making tweaks and additions through the rest of the game’s weaponry. New hop-ups will add Disruptor Rounds that increase shielded damage for the Alternator and RE-45, while Hammerpoint Rounds will increase unshielded damage for the P2020 and Mozambique. This won’t make them lead guns, but could make them handy weapon-swaps in the middle of a fight.

Energy Mags will be added for the Havoc, Devotion and Triple Take, ​increasing ammo capacity at all levels and reducing load time at level 2 and above. Similarly, ammo stacks will now go up to 64 for shotguns and up to 80 for Energy weapons, matching Light and Heavy ammo.

In general, there’s a buff for the Kraber, Flatline, P2020, Alternator, and Triple Take, more details of which will be revealed in the Season 2 patch notes. You’ll also find details of new gold weapons (base guns with all-gold attachments) which will be added to the ultra-rare weapons you can find, with the Airdrop loot tables being modified.

For grenade fans, the Arc Star has been tweaked so that it will ignite quicker and can down a full health player without armour if you stick them. On the flip side, damage will drop off more at the edges of the explosion so that it does less damage to shields.
